Crazy Thoughts POHFW

Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the July 23rd, 2017, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on the Life of Elijah. I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “Crazy Thoughts”. The main Scripture for the day is 1Kings 19:1-18. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to 1Kings 19:1-18, James 5:17, 2Corinthians 1:8-9, Jeremiah 20:14-18, Job 3:1.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Heidelberg Catechism Question 55

Q55. What dost thou understand by the Communion of Saints?

A55. First, that believers, all and every one, as members of Christ have part in Him and in all His treasures and gifts1; secondly, that each one must feel himself bound to use his gifts, readily and cheerfully, for the advantage and welfare of other members.2

1 Rom. 8:32, 1cor 6:17, 12:4-7, 12-13; 1John 1:3

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

Have you experienced times where your situation seemed larger than Jesus? How did you respond?

How does keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus help draw us out of depression and difficulty?

Why is it necessary in hard times to seek out the fellowship of other Christians?

The Sermon will be available online on July 23, 2017 at 12:30 pm.
