Welcome!

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn. We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy. However, it may contain egg.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church.

This Week’s Missional Marker: Compelling Christian Community (Acts 2:42-47)

  • We understand that our love for one another is a powerful testimony to the deity of Jesus.
  • We love each other as we are, not as we should be.
  • We share life together beyond the worship service.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.  This week please pray for:

  • Jerry & Faye H
  • Ginny F
  • Dan G
  • Christie H
  • Karen F
  • Anne G

Pray for “The Table” church: From Pastor Aaron Walters,  Please join us in praying for ways we can faithfully follow God’s movement with an already slim budget. Thank you for your support and prayers!“

Request from International Christian Response: Iranian Christians request prayer for four Christian converts who have finally received the court decision following an appeal court hearing on 13 December 2017. On May 2nd, their lawyer received a court order confirming the ten-year prison sentences received on 6 July 2017 for propagating house churches and promoting “Zionist Christianity.” As they were taking communion at the time of their arrest, on 13 May 2016, three of them faced separate charges of consumption of wine. On 10 September 2016, they were sentenced to 80 lashes each. Their appeal against this sentence remains outstanding. Iranian Christians request prayer that:

  • the Lord will comfort and encourage the four men and their families
  • it will not be necessary for the four men to serve such harsh sentences
  • the Revolutionary Court and judges will stop intimidating Christian converts, and will respect the right of all in Iran to freedom of religion
  • all officials involved will love mercy, act justly, learn about Jesus and choose to follow Him

SUNDAY SCHOOL MEMORY WORK

  • Wonder Class:  Matthew 28:19-20
  • Marvel Class:  John 14:1-2
  • Dive Class:  Ephesians 2:8-9

Council Changes: The following members are being presented by the council as candidates for Elder: Ida R, Ev Ka, Herm L; and for Deacon: Barb Z, Tena V, Elaine S, Jan S.  On May 13th we will have a congregational vote of acceptance, and on May 20th we will draw lots and the Holy Spirit will select our next Elders and Deacons.  We give thanks to Michael B and Lou K for their service as Elders and to Dan O and Avis K for their service as Deacons.

Praise & Prayer Service: Come to Hope in Christ Church on Pentecost Sunday (May 20th) at 6:30pm as we gather for praise and prayer. Recognizing the cultural diversity of Whatcom County, we believe it would be glorifying to God and edifying to the Body to gather for worship and prayer in a service including several languages from our community. What a beautiful picture of Heaven, to gather as one hugely diverse and unified redeemed people, worshipping God and seeking Him in prayer!

Blessing Cards: The blessings frame in the foyer has been cleared of all previous blessings cards so we have room to add more of God’s blessings to the frame.  Take a moment to add one of your 10000 reasons to give praise and thanks to God.

Thank You to the Treasurer: Thank you, Denise, for your 10 years of service as general funds treasurer! Your work has been appreciated. Jennifer B has assumed the role. General funds related questions and information can be emailed to her at treasurer@hopeinchristchurch.org.  In addition, receipts for reimbursement can be emailed or turned into the office.

Garage Sale for Adoption Fund: Terri, a friend of the Roberts, is adopting two girls. A garage sale will be held at church on May 18 & 19 from 8am-2pm with the proceeds going towards the adoption fund. Donations of new or gently used items are being accepted and will be stored in the portable building.

Thank you!: Many thanks to Phil S for donating and planting dozens of new plants and bushes on our campus.
