O Great God

Love the Lord Your God

Welcome!

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn.  We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy.  However, it may contain egg.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Gloria (recovering from surgery) & Darryl G
  • Lisa O
  • Deloris P
  • Joe P
  • Bridger R

Pray for the Ministry to Seafarers:  The local Seafarers ministry is in desperate need of supplies, including jackets, hats, socks, toiletries, books, magazines (especially  Christian) and good DVDs and CDs. They can be dropped off or sent to Project Hope office, care of Seafarers, 205 B.C. Ave., Lynden, WA 98264. If you are interested, the Seafarers always are looking for ship visitors, and you can pray for their ministry. For more information about this ministry to sailors coming to our local ports, contact Pastor John Van Hemert at (561) 351-1239 or pastorvanhemert@gmail.com.

Pray for  Love INC (In the Name of Christ): Love INC is looking for phone call volunteers for its Calling Center. Please pray that God would provide.  If you are available to serve between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. any days Mondays through Thursdays, call the office at (360) 671-6201.

Pray for our brothers and sisters in Algeria: Algerian Christians ask for continued prayer in the face of increasing pressure by the government on the Church and Christians. Since November 2017, a committee of officials has been conducting church inspections. Although the declared purpose of inspections is to test compliance with safety regulations, the officials have also scrutinized license arrangements. To date, seven churches have been ordered to close or cease all activities. Most recently, two Protestant churches were sealed by the Algerian authorities on 26 May 2018. Both churches are in the Kabylie area, where most of Algeria’s Christians are found. Please pray that:

  • Algerian Christians will know the Lord’s peace, wisdom and guidance during growing pressures
  • church leaders will have discernment in all dealings with the authorities
  • the authorities will end the systematic campaign to close churches and limit Christians’ freedom to worship
  • churches ordered to close would soon be permitted to reopen, and that no further action will be taken against those churches still under investigation
  • the regulations governing non-Muslim worship would be amended and justly implemented, so that Christians will be able to worship freely
  • those responsible for the closure orders would know the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness and new life offered by Jesus

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Garage Sale Success!: We appreciate everyone who donated, shopped, staffed, and cleaned up after the garage sale that was held here on May 18 and 19. The adoption fund received $4500.00 from the sale! Three new daughters will be joining the Reed family soon. Thank you so much for your help!

The Story Cards for Children:  Children are invited to take a story card home with them today. The cards correspond to the chapter of The Story that we are covering each week. This Sunday, the card has a verse from Nehemiah, Chapter 21 of The Story.  Look for a box with the cards at the back of the sanctuary every Sunday.

Congratulations!: Bekah R has graduated from high school and will be attending Moody Bible Institute in the fall.  She plans to study teaching English as a second language.  Congratulations, Bekah!

Stand With Refugees in Seattle: Learn how to take action, become advocates, and use your resources to stand in solidarity with refugees worldwide at the “Stand With Refugees” event on June 16 at 9 a.m. at Quest Church. World Renew is partnering with One Day’s Wages for this event and a six-week 1:1 matching fundraising campaign for the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh. Go to onedayswages.com/worldrenew to purchase event tickets for $10 or to make a donation (that will be matched 1:1 by One Day’s Wages) to help provide community kitchens for Rohingya refugees.

5-Day Camp: Child Evangelism Fellowship is hosting a 5-Day Camp at our church from June 18-22 for children in the age range of 5-12 years. There is a flyer in this bulletin for you to give.  Children from Hope in Christ and Legacy churches, as well as neighborhood children are invited.  Please extend an invitation to any families with children that you think might like to come.

Mariners Bus Trip: Join local baseball fans on a bus to watch the Seattle Mariners play a 1:10 p.m. game against the Colorado Rockies on July 7. The cost is $71 a seat for early reservations (and includes a sack lunch). Only 46 seats are available, and must be reserved by June 25. The bus will leave from First CRC at 10 a.m. and return to the church. Anyone is welcome (but no unaccompanied children, please). For more information or to reserve a seat, call Cora Seigman at (360) 318-8715.

  MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:

Fruitful Organizational Structures (Exodus 18:13‐26, Acts 6:1-7)

  • We can articulate a compelling, Christ-honoring vision for our church.
  • We embrace evaluation as normal and natural and work through conflict constructively.
  • Our organizational structures are designed to be efficient at making decisions while at the same time building congregational ownership for those decisions.
