Living Generously POHFW

Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the June 17, 2018, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on the Tithe.  I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “Living Generously”. The main Scriptures for the day are 2Corinthians 8:1-15, 9:6-15.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

 Westminster Larger Catechism Q108

Q. What does the second commandment require?

A. The second commandment requires us to receive, respectfully perform, and preserve completely and purely all the regulations for religion and worship that God has established in his word. These include: prayer and thanksgiving in the name of Christ; the reading, preaching, and hearing of the word; the administration of and receiving the sacraments; church government and discipline; the administration and upkeep of the church; religious fasting; swearing by the name of God; and making vows to him. Also included are disapproving, denouncing, and opposing false worship and doing our best, in accordance with our position and calling in life, to eliminate it and all forms of idolatry.

Heidelberg Catechism Q103

Q. What does God require in the fourth commandment?

A. In the first place, that the ministry of the Gospel and schools be maintained; and that I, especially on the day of rest, diligently attend church to learn the Word of God, to use the Holy Sacraments, to call publicly upon the Lord, and to give Christian alms. In the second place, that all the days of my life I rest from my evil works, allow the Lord to work in me by His Spirit, and thus begin in this life the everlasting Sabbath.
