- Introduction
- John gives his 3rd endearing term of address. (1Jn 2:18)
- First thing John teaches us is that it is the last hour.
- Jesus and the gospel writers spoke about the ‘last days’ (Acts 2:17, 2Tim 3:1, 2Pt 3:3)
- It isn’t just the hour when Jesus died for the sins of people, (Jn 2:4, 7:30)
- Nor is it the hour when the gospel would become clear to the apostles, (Jn 16:25)
- Rather, it is the hour when any moment Jesus might return. (Jn 5:28-29)
- Who are the antichrists?
- The term literally, when broken down means “against/opposed Christ”, i.e. an enemy of God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit.
- OT Imagery of enemies of God (Dan 7:8, 21)
- NT Imagery (Mt 13:37-39, Jn 14:30)
- What do antichrists do?
- Antichrists divide the church by withdrawing from it (1Jn 2:19)
- Antichrists deny the Trinitarian Nature of God – Father and Son (1Jn 2:22)
- Antichrists deny that Jesus incarnated into our world (1Jn 4:2-3, 2Jn 7)
- Antichrists Deny that Jesus is the Son of God (1Jn 4:2-3, 14-15)
- Antichrists deny Jesus as Messiah (1Jn 2:22-23)
- The term Christ, is the Greek form of the Hebrew Messiah, means anointed.
- Prophets, Priests and Kings
- Finally, Antichrists try to deceive people from believing the above truths of God, Christ and Salvation. (1Jn 2:26, Jn 8:44)
- Should we worry about them? (1Jn 2:20)
- We remained faithful argument (1Jn 2:19)
- We have the HS Anointing (1Jn 2:20, 1Jn 4:4, Mt 16:18)
- We have truth (1Jn 2:20-21)
- How to prepare to withstand them? (1Jn 2:21-27)
- Study of the Scriptures.
- Knowledge of the Creeds and confessions of the church.
- Understanding of the ancient heresies.
- Have a close personal walk with Christ.
