1Kings 17;1-7 Elijah and the Drought

 

 

  1. National Apostasy
    1. Cry for a King (1Sam 8-10)
      1. 1Sam 8:5 “…Give us a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”
    2. Saul (1Sam 9-31) 40 years
    3. David (1Sam 16-2Sam) 40 years
    4. Solomon (1Ki 1:28ff) 40 years
    5. Kingdom Divided
  2. Every person who wants to see the church reformed in his/her day must not forget these 3 things (1Ki 17:1)
    1. Declaring who God is
    2. Challenging the Idolatry of the day
    3. Believing in the Power of Prayer
  3. Who is Elijah’s God
    1. The God of Israel
      1. This is a Covenantal name for God. (Gen 17:7, Dt 10:16, Eph 2:12, Heb 7:22, 8:7-10)
    2. The Living God (Is 2:8, Prov 16:33, Gen 21:17, Ex 2:24, Jonah 3:10, Ps 53:2, Lk 16:15)
    3. Sovereign God who uses nature for his purposes
  4. Challenging the Idolatry of the Day
    1. Who was Baal?
    2. Applying the Word of God to the present situation in a most dramatic way (Dt 11:16-17, Heb 4:12, Rom 4:17)
    3. How did the idolatry get here?
      1. People didn’t eradicate all the inhabitants of the land (Num 33:51-56)
      2. Marriage (1Ki 11:4, 16:31-32)
  5. Believe in the Power of Prayer (Jam 5:16-20)
