PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.  This week please pray for:

  • Mark & Faye
  • Chuck
  • Scott E
  • Denise
  • Dave & Lisa

From CRC’s Leadership Development Orientation/Training: Pray for women’s and ethnic ministry leadership development as orientation for eight regional advisory team members and administrative support begins tomorrow. Ask for God’s help as we serve our denomination in this new capacity, and pray for trusting relationships, strategic connections, and discernment of the Spirit’s path forward in developing leaders to serve in God’s kingdom.

From CRC World Renew Ministry in Bangladesh: Throughout the past few months, Bangladesh has been a host nation for hundreds of thousands Rohingya people fleeing violence in Myanmar. Many of these are living in makeshift homes within refugee camps. World Renew is responding alongside the Canadian Foodgrains Bank by providing food to families. Please ask God to bring healing to all who are suffering in this crisis.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church.

This week’s Missional Marker is:

Fruitful Organizational Structures (Ex 18:13-26. Acts 6:1-7)

  • We can articulate a compelling, Christ-honoring vision for our church.
  • We embrace evaluation as normal and natural and work through conflict constructively.
  • Our organizational structures are designed to be efficient at making decisions while at the same time building congregational ownership for those decisions.

SUNDAY SCHOOL MEMORY WORK  DEC. 3 – JAN. 14

  • Wonder:  Psalm 23:1-3
  •  Marvel:  Matthew 28:18-20
  • Dive:  Isaiah 53:2-6

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Opportunity to Share Your Thoughts: Pastors Ken Koeman and Jon Young will be doing their annual church visit to Hope in Christ Church Council on February 14th at 7 pm. If you have any encouragements or concerns about our church that you would like to give to them, please speak with an elder or deacon about scheduling a time for you to speak that evening.

Sale to Benefit GEMS: Terry Vander Woude has a table in the foyer with items for sale.  The proceeds will go to the GEMS ministry at our church.  Stop by and see if there is something that you would like to have!  There also is an upright freezer that is available at a “best offer” price. If you’re interested, see Terry.

The Story Cards for Children:  Children are invited to take a story card home with them today. The cards correspond to the chapter of The Story that we are covering each week. This Sunday, the card has an illustration  of Abraham considering the number of stars in the sky, and Genesis 12:15-16 on the back. Look for a basket with the cards at the back of the sanctuary every Sunday.

Memorial Service: A memorial will be held on January 19th at 1:30 pm for Jodi Meir, a former member of our church. The memorial will be held at Marine Park in Fairhaven.  Please contact Terry Vander Woude if you need directions or have any questions.

Interfaith Coalition Requests Help: Interfaith is in the process of remodeling two of their houses and the Family Promise day center. They critically need volunteers with general drywall, flooring, electrical, or plumbing experience, or professional “handyman” work. The hours are Mon/Tues/Wed daytime, and you can pick your schedule. They need skilled volunteers who can work independently without direct supervision. Call Interfaith at 360-734-3983.

The Interfaith Coalition Hope Auction is coming up on March 24th, and congregation gifts are usually the most popular items. Although it seems like a long time away, we are asking our congregations to get your completed Auction Participation Form to us by Thursday, February 1st. Please note: all auction items are due on March 1st this year. Call Interfaith Coalition at 360-734-3983 if you have questions, and thank you so much for your support of our auction!

CRC News: Christian Reformed Home Missions and Christian Reformed World Missions are now Resonate Global Mission. They want to let you know that they will be at Trinity Western University’s Mission Week January 24th & 25th and Missions Fest Vancouver January 26th, 27th, 28th, 2018. They invite you to come and visit, learn about the mission opportunities they have, and meet some of their staff: Jessica Boy, Canada’s Placement Advisor; Nalini Suganandam-Van den Bosch, Missions Support Manager; and Anne Duifhuis, Western Canada’s Admin-Specialist!
