PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.  This week please pray for:

  • Paulino & Georgi
  • Jessie
  • Virginia
  • Karen F
  • Anne G
  • Darryl & Gloria

Pray for Seafarers Ministry: There are several ways you can help the local Seafarers ministry reach out with the Gospel to sailors in local ports. They are in need of good and Christian magazines, DVDs, jackets and hats. Items can be brought to the Project Hope building on BC Avenue in Lynden. If you are interested, the Seafarers always are looking for ship visitors. Please pray for their ministry. Call Port Chaplain John Van Hemert at (206) 778-1523 for more information.

From CRC’s Back to God Ministries in Brazil: Praise God for the many volunteers who work on behalf of BTGMI throughout the world, spreading the gospel. Pray especially for Edione, a longtime volunteer with our Portuguese ministry in Brazil. She recently suffered a stroke. Our ministry team in Brazil asks for prayers for her healing.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church.

This week’s Missional Marker is:

Centrality  of the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • We believe that the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct.
  • Our preaching and teaching in all settings reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Opportunity to Share Your Thoughts: Pastors Ken Koeman and Jon Young will be doing their annual church visit to Hope in Christ Church Council on February 14 at 7 pm. If you have any encouragements or concerns about our church that you would like to give to them, please speak with an elder or deacon about scheduling a time for you to speak that evening.

The Story Cards for Children:  Children are invited to take a story card home with them today. The cards correspond to the chapter of The Story that we are covering each week. This Sunday, the card has an illustration of Joseph wearing his beautiful coat on the front, and Genesis 37:3 on the back. Look for a basket with the cards at the back of the sanctuary every Sunday.

Friendship Class Helper Needed Tomorrow: This Monday, January 22, Friendship needs a person to role-play the part of a homeless person. It is a short skit (5 mins?) to bring Matthew 25 to life for the class, with a simple question to answer afterwards. Just one spoken line during the skit (which can be read), and the opportunity to be taken care of by others. Contact Tanya if you’re interested or want more details.

Sale to Benefit GEMS: Terry  a table in the foyer with items for sale.  The proceeds will go to the GEMS ministry at our church.  Stop by and see if there is something that you would like to have!  There also is an upright freezer that is available at a “best offer” price. If you’re interested, see Terry.

Parenting Today’s Teens: Teen expert Mark Gregston of Heartlight Ministries will be featured at a conference on Feb. 2 and 3 at North County Christ the King in Lynden. Gregston is the author of several parenting books, hosts a radio show and podcast, and runs a therapeutic boarding school in East Texas. The Friday talk runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free. The Saturday session is titled “Tough Guys and Drama Queens” and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $30 for individuals and $50 for couples and includes lunch. If finances are tight, scholarships are available.
