MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church.

This Week’s Missional Marker:  Intentional Evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20)

  • We are burdened for the spiritual condition of those who do not yet know Christ.
  • We have identifiable pathways for evangelism to take place in our ministries.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to build spiritual friendships and know how to share their faith as God-‐birthed opportunities arise.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.  This week please pray for:

  • Helen B
  • Alice B
  • Tricia and Mairi B
  • Anita B:  Jonathan, AnaMaria, Isaac
  •  Bill B
  •  Marlene B

Our World Renew Disaster Response Volunteers: Jerry & Faye, Bud & Lorraine, and Herm & Ali are volunteering with World Renew Disaster Response Services repairing homes in Tarboro, NC from April 7 to 28 due to Hurricane Matthew. Faye sent a letter with an update, which you can find on a clipboard in the foyer. Faye writes, “We would all appreciate your prayers for our physical strength and health to continue and for opportunities to interact with our homeowners and to share our Joy in the Lord with them.”

For Whatcom County Social Services: Please pray for God’s protection and encouragement for front-line nonprofit ministries such as Engedi Refuge, Lighthouse Mission, Rebound, Whatcom Pregnancy Clinic, Love Inc, and others in our county. Pray for God’s provision for social services of justice and mercy designed to help those who are hurting. Pray for blessing and favor on church and volunteer engagement in social services around Whatcom County.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

Father/Son Hike: Fathers of sons, if you and yours would like to join Brian and Scott E on a fathers-and-sons, overnight, two-day, backpacking hike in Aug/Sep, please let Scott know your availability. Honorary uncles are welcome too. The dates we’re considering are all Fridays & Saturdays: Aug 17 & 18, Aug 31 & Sep 1 (Labor Day weekend), and Sep 14 & 15.

Blessing Cards: The blessings frame in the foyer has been cleared of all previous blessings cards so we have room to add more of God’s blessings to the frame.  Take a moment to add one of your 10000 reasons to give praise and thanks to God.

Spring Clean Up: Join your church family on Saturday, April 21 for breakfast and to help spruce up our campus. Bring your gardening gloves, a bucket, yard broom, hoe and/or rake as we plan to pull weeds, spread bark and trim up some plants. A hot breakfast will be served in the foyer from 8-9 am. Building and Maintenance Team hopes to have everything done by noon. Contact Doug S if you have any questions, or about donating plants.

Summer Sermons: We will be breaking from The Story sermon series over the summer. You have an opportunity to help Pastor Scott choose his summer sermon topics!  Please drop a note in the offering basket on Sunday, or send an email to the office with your suggestion of topics, or with questions you would like to have answered.

Garage Sale for Adoption Fund: Terri R, a friend of the Roberts, is adopting two girls. A garage sale will be held at church on May 18 & 19 from 8am-2pm with the proceeds going towards the adoption. Donations of new or gently used items are being accepted and will be stored in the portable building. If you have something that needs to be picked up, please call Jen Roberts.

The Story Cards for Children:  Children are invited to take a story card home with them today. The cards correspond to the chapter of The Story that we are covering each week. This Sunday, the card has an illustration of King Asa on the front, and 1 Kings 15:11 on the back. Look for a basket with the cards at the back of the sanctuary every Sunday.

Lighthouse Mission’s Light in the Night Gala & Auction: Look forward to a spectacular, heartfelt night with live entertainment, photo booth, raffle, silent and live auctions, and inspiring guest stories. You will also enjoy appetizers, a plated dinner, and dessert. All funds you help raise will support men, women, and children who are homeless in our community. Hope in Christ Church would like to donate a basket(s) or items for the auction and raffle. If have something that you would be willing to contribute, please speak with Terry V.  The event is Saturday, May 19 at 5:00 PM at Four Points by Sheraton. Visit www.auctria.com/auction/missiongala for tickets, $70 per person or $500 for a table of 8.

Mission Trip Planning:  The plans for a summer mission trip are on hold for now. Look for further information in the next Heartbeat newsletter.
