Bible Reading for this Week

Enclosed is a paper with questions for you to consider as you read through Chapter 25 of The Story this week. Pastor Scott’s sermon next Sunday, Sep 30th, is titled “Jesus, Light and Life of God” and is based on scriptures found in Chapter 25. Please bring the insert with you next week for reference during Sunday School discussion. If you do not have a copy of The Story, please let Pastor Scott know today.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Mark & Rockelle: Mattea, Michal, Amariah, Eliana
  • Doug & Jan S
  • Joanne S
  • Vicki S
  • Mitch & Rochelle;  Jonathan, Elisha, Peter

Pray for CRCNA’s Safe Church Ministry: Conference. “Equipped in our #MeToo World,” the binational Safe Church Ministry conference, is taking place this weekend. Pray for safe travel, open hearts, valuable networking, and effective presentations and workshops. Pray also that safe church team members who attend will be energized, encouraged, and equipped for fruitful safe church ministry in every classis and congregation.

Pray for Back to God Ministries International.  Pray for the editing team of our Chinese Today devotions as they move from translating the English edition to developing a team of native Chinese writers. Praise God for this opportunity to continue to think critically about what it means to be a Christian who is Chinese.

Pray for persecuted Christians in India.  “Under the influence of Hindu extremists, police and media campaigns against Christians in Uttar Pradesh state, India have mushroomed since one such attack sent a pastor into hiding last month, sources said. After false media reports of large-scale, fraudulent conversions of Hindus by pastor Durga Prasad Yadav in Jaunpur District went viral in July, followed by false police charges, there have been multiple area reports of disrupted worship meetings, pastors and evangelists arrested and Christian leaders fleeing their homes to avoid arrest, sources said.” New Dehli, September 17, 2018 (Morning Star News)

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Compelling Christian Community (Acts 2:42-47)

  • We understand that our love for one another is a powerful testimony to the deity of Jesus.
  • We love each other as we are, not as we should be.
  • We share life together beyond the worship service.

Sunday School Memory Verses

  • Wonder Class— Genesis 9:12-13 NIV
  • Dive Class— Psalm 23 NIV
  • Marvel Class— Psalm 51:10-12 NIV

The Story Cards for Children: Children are invited to take a story card home with them today. The cards correspond to the chapter of The Story that we are covering each week. Look for the card box at the back of the sanctuary every Sunday.
