ANNOUNCEMENTS

“Believe” book order: The study of “The Story” is almost finished, so it is time to sign-up for a copy of “Believe,” which will be the next book that we read together.  Please add your name to the sign-up list by the stairs in the foyer.

Proposed Budget: There will be a congregational meeting on Nov. 18th, during which the budget will be presented and a vote taken. Please help yourself to a copy of the budget and agenda that are available in the foyer.

Birthday Dinner, Friday Evening 6 p.m.: It is not too late to sign up for the Birthday Dinner. Please call Ruth to be included in the event. There are hostesses assigned who will contact you if you are requested to bring something. Don’t miss the fun! See you Friday evening!

2018 Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair: Mark your calendar for Hope in Christ’s annual Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair on November 16 and 17.  Friday hours are 4-8 and Saturday from 9-5. Make a dent in your Christmas shopping with beautiful hand-made goods of all sorts and great products from a variety of vendors. Chili and hot dogs, along with coffee, hot cider, and cookies will be available. Tables are still available if you have items you would like to sell. Contact Marjie in the church office to reserve a table or pick up a form during office hours. If you are able to donate items for the bake sale and/or are willing to work at the sale for a few hours, please sign up in the foyer, or contact Ruth Stadt. Your willingness to contribute is deeply appreciated.

Actors needed! The Friendship Christmas Program needs a Lion and a Lamb to share some puns and help move the story. Looking for willing hearts, not perfection! Lines can be memorized as much or as little as you’d prefer. Practices will be from 7-8:15pm on Monday, November 12 & 26. Christmas program is Monday, December 10 starting at 7pm. Contact Tanya or Terry if interested. Email: friendship@hopeinchristchurch.org

Thank you from Interfaith: Thanks to your generosity, there were plenty of coats and warm items to warm the bodies and hearts of our guests at the Interfaith Coalition coat distributions around Whatcom County this past month. It would be impossible to fully describe the grateful thank yous, and the look on faces of our guests at the distributions, as more than 3,000 items were shared with families who came for help to make it through the upcoming winter.  This is an effort that is made possible by so many of you choosing to help.  Our deepest gratitude to your congregation reps, the volunteers who collected and dropped off coats, or helped at the events, and all who donated.  May you be blessed in knowing that there are many families who will be warmer because of you.  Thank you!

SUNDAY SCHOOL MEMORY VERSES

BIBLE READING FOR THIS WEEK

Please read through Chapter 30 of The Story this week. Guest Pastor Nathaniel Thompson’s sermon next Sunday will be based on scriptures found in Chapter 30, “Paul’s Final Days.” If you do not have a copy of The Story, please let Pastor Scott know today.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Anita B: Jonathan, AnaMaria, Isaac
  • Mike & Diane B
  • Marlene B
  • Bud & Lorraine B
  • Sissy D
  • Chuck D

Pray for those affected by hurricanes in the U.S.—On Sept. 14, Hurricane Florence stormed into North Carolina. Surges and intense rainfall created what is now thought to be the worst flooding event in East Coast history. Then on Oct. 10, Hurricane Michael smashed the Florida panhandle and blew through Georgia and the Carolinas. Please pray for all who have suffered losses from these storms. Please also pray for World Renew DRS volunteers as they assist in recovery efforts.

Pray for those affected by the tsunami in Indonesia—On Friday, Sept. 28, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, setting off a tsunami that devastated the island. More than 2,000 people are reported dead, and more than 1.6 million have been affected. Water, food, and fuel shortages are compounded by limited communications and damaged roads. Pray for the people of Sulawesi in this time of grief and for disaster response efforts throughout the area.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:  LIFE TRANSFORMING WALK WITH JESUS (John 3:3, 30; Phil. 1:6)

  • We teach our people how to be attentive to Christ in all circumstances.
  • Our people understand the radical nature of the message and mission of Jesus that continually deconstructs and reconstructs a person’s life.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to use a variety of spiritual growth resources, experiences, and settings.
