PRAYERS
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Joe P
  • Bridger R
  • Debra R
  • Don and Darlys R
  • David and Ida R

From International Christian Response (ICR): Please pray for:
Christians in Gaza request prayer that permits will be granted for them to travel to the West Bank to visit friends and relatives over the Christmas holidays.
A Hindu extremist strategy for stopping the spread of Christianity by targeting pastors – and their families – was painfully evident in a recent attack on a Christmas planning meeting in northern India. It is the Christian victims that were arrested and charged with causing religious enmity.
Officers arrested six pastors in eastern Uganda on Saturday (Nov. 24) after hundreds of Muslims, furious over a public talk comparing Christianity with Islam, descended on the local police station.

MISSIONAL MARKER
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:
Sacrificial and Generous Living and Giving
Romans 12:1-8
We help people discover, develop and deploy their spiritual gifts
We regularly, graciously, and unapologetically teach on the importance of financial stewardship in the spiritual growth of the Christian.
We have many examples of lifestyle choices being made on the basis of stewardship and the priority God plays in the lives of our members.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Women’s Severe Weather Shelter for the Lighthouse Mission: Our church has signed up to provide chili and rolls each Wed. evening for the women at the shelter. If you would like to provide rolls or a crockpot of chili, choose your Wednesday and sign up on the poster in the foyer.

Please remember to put your name on your crockpot. The shelter has been hosting every night over forty women and they are very grateful to our church for helping out with a weekly meal.

Giving Tree: Thank you to those who have removed a gift tag from the giving tree in the foyer. All gifts need to be brought to church today so they may be delivered to the Lighthouse Mission. If you did not bring your gift today, please contact Terry.

Materials from The Story: Do you have any materials from The Story that you would like to give to someone else to use? All of the leftover and unused materials (books, CDs, cards, posters, etc.) that we do not need anymore will be gifted to another group who could use them. There will be a box in the foyer next Sunday for the materials that you do not want to keep.

Potluck on Sunday, December 30th: This will be a soup and salad luncheon. If your last name begins with A – D, please bring a dessert. Last names from E – Sk, please bring soup of any kind (we already have chili), and last names from Sp-Z, please bring a salad (please note the correction). You are welcome to trade with someone if you’d like. Rolls will be provided by Hospitality.

Reports are Available: Thank you for your generosity in giving this past year! If you would like to see the year-end financial reports, please help yourself to a copy of the financial summary and the resource report on the shelf in the foyer. Questions? Your deacon is happy to find the answer!

January Series of Calvin College: The award-winning January series is coming once again to Lynden. From Jan. 3 through Jan. 23, Third Christian Reformed Church will be one of more than 50 remote webcast locations worldwide to broadcast one of the nation’s leading lecture and cultural arts series. The video will be streamed from 9:30-10:30 a.m. PST Monday through Friday. Pick up a brochure today to see the schedule of lectures.

Thankyou from the Friendship Class: The Friendship Class wishes to thank all who came to support them in their presentation of the Christmas story. A special thank you to Keith for writing the script and to Mattea and Kylie for being our lion and lamb.

Women’s Study Group: The Wednesday morning women’s study group will not meet again until January 9, 2019.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers last week before and after  surgery. I appreciated them, and calls and emails too. Lorraine
