Bible Reading for this Week

Read through CHAPTER 2 of Believe this week as you ponder the following questions:

  1. What in this chapter spoke to me the most?  Was there something I saw in a new  light?
  2. What in this chapter draws me to live more fully for Christ?
  3. Is there something that I would want to share from my heart with someone who may not know Jesus as their Savior?

If you do not have a copy of Believe yet, please let an elder or Pastor Scott know and they will be glad to give you one.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Don & Elaine S
  • Lanny & Christine S
  • Ruth S
  • Aaron & Megan S:  Isaac, Thaddeus, Miriam
  • Kylie T

From CRC, Disability Concerns: Epiphany—Today Christians celebrate Jesus’ revelation to the Gentiles in the visit of the Magi. Praise God that his Son came not just for a select group of people but for all who follow him, whatever our age, nationality, ability, language, gender, or whatever else separates us from one another!

From CRC, Resonate: Church plant—Celebration Fellowship, a Resonate church plant for men who are serving time in prison, continues to draw new people into worship. Praise God! “Pray that God will prompt conversion in readied hearts and that guys will seek to be baptized into the body of disciples,” asks Pastor Bob Arbogast.

Pray for the Church in Algeria: The official notice that a village pastor in Algeria received on Sunday (Dec. 30) confirmed what he had heard – his church [Protestant Church of Algeria] had been ordered to close. ..[Officials] used Algeria’s 2006 law on religion, commonly known as Law 03/06, to close the church, which requires non-Muslim places of worship to register with government officials, though they slow to grant permission if they act at all…Algeria ranked 42nd on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.  January 2, 2019  TIZI-OUZOU, Algeria (Morning Star News)

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:

Centrality of the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)

  • We believe that the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct.
  • Our preaching and teaching in all settings reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.
