BIBLE READING FOR THIS WEEK

Read through CHAPTER 17 of Believe this week as you ponder the following questions:

  1. What in this chapter spoke to me the most? Was there something I saw in a new light?
  2. What in this chapter draws me to live more fully for Christ?
  3. Is there something that I would want to share from my heart with someone who may not  know Jesus as their Savior?

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Mike & Geralyn C:  Josiah, Abigail, Bethany, Aleya, Emma, Nathanael, Alexander
  • Mike & Diane B
  • Sissy D
  • Chuck D
  • David & Lisa D

Christians in Palestine request prayer following the intimidation of Christian residents of Jifna, near Ramallah, by armed militiamen. Christians in Palestine are grateful that no one was hurt in the attack, but request prayer that:

  • The Lord will comfort the residents of Jifna, especially those traumatized by the attack, and enable them to respond wisely.
  • Church leaders in Palestine will be able to encourage the Christian community and cooperate with the authorities to maintain a peaceful existence.
  • The Palestinian Authorities will uphold the law and provide security for all citizens, including Christians, appropriately punish the perpetrators and investigate why the police took so long to respond to the incident.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: SACRIFICIAL AND GENEROUS LIVING AND GIVING (Romans 12:1-8)

  • We help people discover, develop, and deploy their spiritual gifts.
  • We regularly, graciously, and unapologetically teach on the importance of financial stewardship in the spiritual growth of the Christian.
  • We have many examples of lifestyle choices being made on the basis of stewardship and the priority God plays in the lives of our members.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Vote of Acceptance Today: The following members are being presented by the council as candidates for Elder: Clair Abee, Brian Koning, Herm Laninga; and for Deacon: Ruth Stadt, Jennifer Boer, Philip Bergman. During the congregational meeting this morning at 11:00, a vote will be taken to accept or reject the names presented by council. On May 12th, we will draw lots and the Holy Spirit will select our next Elders and Deacons. We give thanks to Joe Pruitt and Don Recker for their service as Elders, and to Lisa DeSalvo and Terry Vander Woude for their service as Deacons.

Family Promise Meeting May 12th: We are providing support for Family Promise for the week of May 26 at First Christian Church. Please be praying about how you might be involved as a volunteer in this ministry. Here are the various tasks/roles for each day: Dinner Hosts/Preparers, Evening Hosts, Overnight Hosts, Sunday Take-down, and Laundry. Please stay for a short meeting next Sunday, May 12th immediately following the service.

Coffee Card Stories on May 12th: During the service we will be asking for the sharing of stories from handing out the coffee cards. This will be your opportunity to encourage all of us in reaching out for Jesus, and the responses are always interesting and meaningful, as we can learn from any interaction! And remember that what we do for God’s glory a success no matter how small. So, be thinking of what you would like to share with us- it will be a blessing!

Bring Us Your Books! The H.I.C. Little Library is becoming a reality and now we need your help to keep it stocked! Please bring used Novels (fiction and non-fiction), Devotionals, Children’s Books, Teen Books, Bibles, D.V.Ds and C.Ds, etc. There is a container in the foyer to place your items. Thanks so much! From the Vitality Committee.

Evergreen Christian School Celebration: Evergreen Christian School invites past and present families to an evening of celebration and worship on May 31 at 6:30. Enjoy an evening of praise and worship and shared memories as we celebrate God’s faithfulness in the past, present, and future of Evergreen Christian School. Cookie reception to follow program.

Buildings and Grounds Work Project: Helpers will be needed May 10, 11 and 18th to replace some sidings and windows on the Ministry House and also for painting after the project is complete. Doug Bosscher is leading the project and requests volunteers to help lower the cost of the project. We’ll have more information available as we get closer to the date.

GEMs and their families are invited to the Be a Blessing Family Celebration on May 6 at 6pm: It will be a fun, theme focused, year-end event for the entire family to celebrate the girls and what they learned during GEMS this season. Pizza, salad and dessert will be served.

Garage Sale: Hope in Christ Church will be hosting a garage sale May 17-18 to benefit the Reed’s adoption. We would love for some folks to come alongside and help with the sale. We will be setting up on Wed May 15, finishing set up and pricing on May 16, and hosting the sale from 8a-2p Fri and Sat May 17 and 18. Finally, there will be clean up and reset Sat from 2- finished.
