Pray for Christians in India:  NEW DELHI, June 6, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Authorities seized 12 tearful, fatherless children from a Christian ministry in eastern India last month after local officials demolished the ministry’s school and hostel, sources said. After Hindu extremists persuaded the district collector to demolish the hostel and school serving 250 students, child protection personnel and police on May 21 seized the six orphans and six other children whose fathers were killed by communist guerrillas known as Naxalites. India is ranked 10th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2019 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian. The country was 31st in 2013, but its position has been worse each year since Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in 2014.

Pray for Christians in Kenya:  NAIROBI, Kenya, June 5, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Police have banned evangelistic events in a town in western Uganda following open-air preaching in which many Muslims put their faith in Christ, sources said. Churches in Bwera, on Uganda’s western border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, held a joint evangelistic event amid the large Muslim population in Bwera beginning on May 20. The success of the event led not only to the ban but to church leaders receiving death threats, pastors said. Following the May 25 meeting, police later that day banned all open-air Christian meetings in Bwera, they said. The event had been scheduled to end on May 26.The ban sent a chilling message to those who have become Christians, who said they are afraid to go to worship services or other Christian meetings.

Pray for Synod 2019: The council of Faith Community CRC, Wyoming, Michigan, calls all delegates to Synod 2019, elected by their respective classes, to meet in the Covenant Fine Arts Center on the campus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday, June 14, at 8:30 a.m.

All area CRC members are invited to join the delegates in worship at the synodical Service of Prayer and Praise on Sunday evening, June 16, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. in the College Chapel, Calvin College, 1835 Knollcrest Circle SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Rev. Roger B. Groenboom, pastor at Faith Community CRC, will deliver the message.

All CRC churches across the continent are requested to remember the deliberations of synod in their intercessory prayers on Sunday, June 9, and Sunday, June 16.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:  Intentional Evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20)

  • We are burdened for the spiritual condition of those who do not yet know Christ.
  • We have identifiable pathways for evangelism to take place in our ministries.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to build spiritual friendships and know how to share their faith as God-‐birthed opportunities arise.
