Outline
- Homecomings
- Jesus Christ is Coming Back! (Rev 22:12-13)
- This is one of many times that Revelation declares the return of Christ. (Rev 1:7, 14:14, 16:15)
- The same thing is taught in many NT passages (Acts 1:11, 1Th 4:16, Jn 14:13)
- Why all the repetition? (Rev 22:12-13)
- There is hardly a NT book that doesn’t explicitly declare the return of Christ (1Cor 15, 16:22, 2Cor 4:7ff, Gal 1:4, 4:26, 6:9, Eph 1:21, Phil 1:10, 3:13, 3:21, Col 3:4, 1Th 4-5, 2Th1-2, 1Tim 4:8, 6;14, 2Tim 4:8, Tit 1:2, 2:13, Heb 9:28, Jam 5:3, 9, 1Pt 1:3-7, 2Pt 3, 1jn 2:28, 2Jn 8, Jude, Rev)
- Why – Because God wants us to keep that in the forefront of our minds.
- motivate us for good,
- warn us against evil and
- convict us against laziness.
- When Christ comes the great reward and eternal punishment occur.
- The Punishments of Hell
- At the return of Christ, 2 things happen in quick succession:
- Satan and his demonic hordes are immediately and utterly destroyed (Rev 20:9b-10, Mt 25:41)
- every single person will stand before God to give an account of their life (2Cor 5:10, Rev 20:12-15)
- The second thing thrown in is death and hades (Ps 68:20)
- Individual people stand before God to give account for the good and evil they have done. (Rev 20:12, Jn 6:29)
- At the return of Christ, 2 things happen in quick succession:
- The Rewards of Heaven (Rev 21:3, 22:2, 4-5, 15, 21:16-17, Eph 4:24, Gen 3:8)
- Go forth and live in the light of Christ’s return!
