Positive, open, and full of enthusiasm, Brian has a zest for adventure and an easy-going manner that puts others at ease. Growing up on a small dairy farm in Idaho and fighting wildfires during the summers to put himself through school, he obtained his undergrad degree at Dordt College in Iowa. In 2004 he graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry, then completed a residency at the University of Utah.
He has participated in mission and humanitarian trips to Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Ethiopia, continues to volunteer at the No-Cost Frank Haskell Lions Eye Clinic at Bellingham’s Lighthouse Mission, and serves on the school board at his children’s school. He and his wife, Melissa, children Abee, Brenna, John, Zachariah, and golden retriever Matty Sioux, enjoy backpacking, Bible studies, biking, snowshoeing, and nature photography.
