Bulletin – Week of May 21, 2017

“The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice” (Psalm 97:1, NRSV). We extend a happy welcome to all worshipers, especially those who are here for the first time. Introduce yourself to those around you after worship, and plan to be part of our congregation regularly.

Message: Testing Our Faith

Scripture:  1Kings 17:7-16

Offering: Outreach Fund

Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Mike and Jenn Boer and their children, Del and Pat Bosman, Helen Bowman, Alice Brakke, Tricia and Mairi Bravener, Bill Brewster. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

We continue to pray for Mike and Diane Button. Mike underwent surgery on Friday.

Ken Wick is undergoing surgery on Monday to place two stents in his femoral arteries. Please pray for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery for Ken.

This morning we will be ordaining Jerry Hop as Elder and Rockelle Ruiter as Deacon. Thank you to David Richards and Ali Laninga for their service to the church this past three years.

Our sermon next Sunday will be “Raising the Dead” based on 1Kings 17:17-24. Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

The Worship Planning Team will be meeting this Wednesday at 7pm in the Administration Building.

The offering this morning is for the Outreach Fund. Please designate on the memo of your check if it is for this fund. All loose money will be placed in this fund.

We welcome Marjie Herold to the church office as the new Administrative Assistant.

Jen Roberts is having a garage sale at our church on June 2-3 to raise money for the adoption of a boy from China and she would love your good used stuff. Jen would also appreciate help on May 31 and June 1 as they move items from the portable and price them. Help is needed during the garage sale, cleanup afterwards and then help setting up the sanctuary. Donations of homemade baked goods would be appreciated. There will also be hotdogs for sale on Friday and Saturday.

Volunteers are needed to organize and run the church bazaar, which usually is held the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in November. Please let Terry Vander Woude know if you are interested in helping to organize this event.

Servants Next Sunday, May 28: Greeters: Deloris Perry and Helen Bowman; Snacks: Karen Smith and Terry Vander Woude; Serving Assistants: Zeke, Chantel, Amber; Ushers: Joe Pruitt and Don Knutson; Prayer Room: Del Bosman; Sunday school: Diane Button and Brian Koning; Children and Worship: Bekah Roberts and Ali Laninga.

The Deacons are collecting funds to help remodel the Administration Building and replace the sink in the foyer. The remodel team hopes to soon begin the “home mission” work. To volunteer or if you have questions, please contact Mike Boer. We still need approximately $2500 for the project.

Do you desire Safe Places for Women and Children? On a table in the foyer is a petition, I-1552, which concerns gender-segregated facilities and civil liability. This measure would override state/local protections against gender-identity discrimination in certain public-accommodation facilities, require that public schools restrict access to some facilities based on sex at birth, and allow related lawsuits against schools. More information regarding this petition is available on the table with the petition or you can read more at www.justwantprivacy.org.

BLESSINGS-The blessings frame in the foyer has been cleared to make room for new blessings. 115 blessing cards were removed; we have a way to go to show 10,000 reasons to praise the Lord!

If you enjoy sacred choral music, you may want to consider coming to the next Whatcom Chorale Concert.  The Chorale will be performing Brahms Requiem on Sunday, June 4, at 3:00 pm at Bellingham High School.  Don Recker and Ali Laninga both sing in the Chorale and will have information regarding tickets.

The Deacons have invited Bekah Roberts and Lisa DeSalvo to share this morning about their upcoming mission trip to Bulgaria.

Articles and calendar information for the June issue of “The Heartbeat” are due in the church office prior to Thursday.

Save the Date! Come join Don and Darlys Recker for a 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 10 @ 6 P.M. Potluck dinner & some fun games including the Newly Wed Game and BUNKO.
