The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn. We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service.
Bible Reading for This Week
Pastor Scott’s sermon next week will be based on the topic and scriptures found in Chapter 21 of “Believe.”
Prayer for This Week
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
- Nancy L
- Dan L
- Steve & Gina N
- Don N
- Chris & Jeannette M: Abigail, Kaitlyn, Anthony
Pray for Christians in Iran (christianresponse.org):
“… an appeal court hearing [was] scheduled for 3 September in which three separate cases would be considered. Iranian Christians report that it now seems likely that only two [Shamiram Issavi Khabizeh (pastor’s wife) and Kavian Fallah Mohammadi (Persian Christian convert)] of the defendants will have their sentences reviewed at the upcoming hearing, not six as previously understood….
Iranian Christians request continued prayer that:
- Shamiram will know the Lord’s peace and guiding wisdom at the hearing.
- The Lord will direct the judge, Ahmad Zargar, as he prepares for the hearing.
- That all defendants in the three cases will eventually be acquitted of all charges.
- The Lord will strengthen and encourage all Iranian Christians who are falsely accused of acts against national security simply because of their Christian faith and activities.
Missional Marker
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Global Perspective and Engagement (Acts 1:8)
- We raise the sights of our members beyond our congregation and community by developing a Biblical worldview and often pray for and reference global matters.
- We have identifiable pathways to support the cause of Christ globally.
- Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to participate in the global dimensions of our ministry.
Announcements for This Week
Family Promise: We are gearing up for our next Family Promise Week of September 15-22. There will be a short meeting following the service today to sign up for various ways to serve. There are opportunities for dinner prep, evening hosts, overnight hosts, and laundry volunteers. If you have any questions you can contact Lorraine B or Ali L.
Happy Anniversary: Cake will be served following the service this morning, so please stay and celebrate Bud and Lorraine’s 2nd of September, 50th wedding anniversary with us.
Church Picnic: Hospitality Committee has planned a picnic at Birch Bay State Park for next Sunday, the 8th, after church. Passes or paid entry are required, so they suggest carpooling with someone who has a pass. Wood and BBQs are needed if hot dogs are on your menu. Everyone should bring their own beverages, plates, cups and silverware. If anyone has a truck and would like to bring the church BBQ along, please let Ruth know. There are no food assignments for this potluck/picnic, but casseroles, salads and desserts are needed. This picnic will take the place of the usual 5th-Sunday-of-the-month potluck in September. Thank you to everyone for your willingness to come and say good-bye to summer by attending this last “hurrah!” See you at church, and then at Birch Bay! (Weather permitting.)
Craft & Vendor Fair: Do you like to create crafts to sell? Once again, Hope in Christ will be hosting the Annual Craft Fair. This year the event will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Contact the church office at 360-733-6177 to reserve your table or to obtain more information.
Women’s Wednesday Bible Study: The Women’s Group will begin meeting this month and are starting a 10-week study by Max Lucado titled, “Ten Women of the Bible.” The exact start date is TBD pending arrival of the book order.
Clean up with Bellingham PD: Would you like to help our police department keep neighborhood trails clean? Our church is invited to meet at Geri Fields parking lot on the corner of Puget and Fraser on Saturday the 7th at 9:00 a.m. We will be picking up trash along the trails around Civic Field until 11:00 a.m. Please contact the church office if you would like to help, because the police department would like to know how many people to expect.
