    1. James 1:3 testing of our faith produces steadfastness/perseverance
    2. James 1:12 says Christians are blessed if they are steadfast under trials
    3. But the largest teaching on patience in the book is James 5:7-12
  3. The Command to be patient (Jam 5:7-8)
    1. Context Rich and Poor (James 4:13, 5:1ff)
    2. What is Patience and why should we practice it?
      1. Prayerful waiting (James 5:7)
      2. Reason: Jesus is coming back (James 5:7-8, Acts 2:17, Heb 1:2, James 5:3, 4:4)
    3.  Application:
      1. “How will the coming the of the Lord rectify this?” and
      2. “If he was to return today, what affect would that have on how I responded to the person causing my pain?”
  4. The Practice of Patience
    1. Not Grumbling (James 5:9)
    2. Suffering for God (James 5:10, Jer 38:4-13, 1Ki 22:24-27, Heb 11:35-38, )
    3. Steadfast Trust and reliance on God (even in difficulty) (James 5:11, Job 1:8, 1Cor 4:9)
