Ephesians 6:1-3 Christ in Children

- Why did this matter?
- 2 Reasons
- Sin – sin is lawlessness (1Jn 3:4)
- Israel – Israel was called by God to be the son of the Father.

- Salvation and Jesus (Heb 5:7-9)
- A theological parallel between Christ-Church-Marriage and God the Son-God the Father-Children (Eph 6:1)
- 2 Reasons
- Who is addressed?
- Children.
- In that ancient world, a child was always under his/her father specifically, and parents generally.
- Scriptural proof that Children means ALL are enjoined to Obey and Honor (Rom 1:30, 2Tim 3:1-5, Mt 10:21)
- All 3 of these are about adults.
- Jesus was in submission to his Father until the end of his earthly life! (John 5:19, 12:49, Lk 22:42)
- How can we obey our parents?
- Christ Honored His heavenly Father
- What is Honor and how does it differ from Obedience (Rom 12:10)
- Scriptural Proof that Christ honored his heavenly Father (Is 29:13, Jn 8:49, Num 25:12-13, Heb 7:17, 1Sam 2:30, Heb 2:9)
- How can we honor our parents?
- Protect their reputation
- Seek their opinion
- Give them Time and Money
- etc
- The Promise (Eph 6:2-3, Dt 5:16)
- Originally the promise was given to Israel as part of the covenant stipulations for living in the Land, but Paul is drawing it forward into a type of proverbial promise if you will.
