Bulletin – Week of August 28, 2016

Welcome, everyone! May God open our hearts so love can come forth — love for God and love for one another! Rejoice! We’re with the Lord.

Message: What God says about Submission

Scripture: Ephesians 5:21

Offering:  General Fund

Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Mike and Geralyn Cunningham and their children, Sissy Davis, Chuck Dean, Dave and Lisa DeSalvo, Denise Doezema, and Scott Emory. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

We lift Joe Pruitt up in prayer as his mother passed away. Please keep Joe and his family in prayers during this difficult time for them.

We are also asked to pray for the country of Malawi. Don and Tena’s daughter Vicki and her husband are currently stationed there and they request our prayers for this very poor and needy country that is in desperate need of rain.

All team leaders are reminded to start putting together their proposed budget requests, which will be needed by the Deacons by October 1. The pre-budget meeting has been scheduled for Oct. 26 at 7pm in the church lobby.

It is time to sign up to teach or help with Sunday school and Children and Worship. Diane Button has a sign up poster in the foyer, so please check out the dates and sign up to help. For more information, check out the article in the August “Heartbeat.”

The next worship planning meeting will be held August 31at 7pm in the large room on the second floor of the Administration building.

Servants Next Sunday, September 4: Greeters: Karen Smith and Chris Pike; Snacks: Jan Scholten and Joanne Schultz; Ushers: Len Vander Woude and Ken Wick; Prayer Room: Connie Knutson; Serving Assistants: Zeke, Mairi, Amber, Faith.

A reminder regarding the Vitality Pathway: In September, we’re conducting a communications workshop used successfully by various types of organizations to teach us how our communication styles are perceived by others and what we can do to communicate effectively when dealing with people of other styles. The workshop will be 7:00-9:00 on Friday evening, Sept 16th, and 9:00-5:00 on Saturday, Sept 17th. And it will not work for us to attend only a part of the workshop—in fact doing that could actually have a negative impact—so it’s crucial that we plan on attending both Friday evening and Saturday. Child care will be provided for the whole workshop as will lunch on Saturday. And we’ll have a salad potluck before the workshop on Friday evening. This will be worth it, folks. The consideration we learn to give one another here in this workshop is part of the loving one another we’re repeatedly instructed to do in the Bible. Please place in the box in the back of the sanctuary the sign-up slips found in the bulletin so we’ll know how much food to provide.

On September 24, 9am to noon, is a training event for all sound board people. All worship team members (singers and musicians) are also asked to be present during this time as well to give the team practice in balancing the board for our different worship teams.

You are invited to a Renewal Forum – Hans Erchinger-Davis, Executive Director of the Lighthouse Mission will be sharing valuable information that we can all use. Feel free to invite others to join you! Date/Time: 6:30-8pm at First Presbyterian Church, August 31, RSVP to Kim Jones hoovie928@gmail.com. Childcare for kids up through 5 years old with your reservation by 8/29. This event is appropriate for ages 6 and up.

I left a wide sawdust shovel behind at the last campus work party and I thought it would be in the tool shed but it isn’t. Someone has mistakenly taken it home with them and I would appreciate it being returned to me. Thanks, Lou Kooistra

TEAM LEADERS: Did you submit your group information to the church office so it can be added to the church’s calendar?

Do you enjoy learning and discussing the Bible with fellow believers? Are you interested in joining a small group? Friendship is starting a new class for students who would benefit from a small group study format. Herm has graciously offered to lead this class and would love to have at least one person join him as a mentor. For more information on the study and format visit http://togethersmallgroups.org/what-is-together/. To see a sample lesson, visit http://together.friendship.org/. Please contact Herm or Tanya if you are interested. The Friendship team mentors will be meeting this Tuesday evening at 7pm in the Admin. Building.

The Men’s Thursday Evening Bible Study will resume on Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m. We will continue the study of “The Book of Jonah” and when that is finished we will begin the study of “Hebrews” by Max Lucado. A welcome is extended to anyone who would like to join us! Lanny Speyer 739-5514

Volunteers are needed to take a turn in the prayer room one Sunday morning approximately two-three times per year. There is a journal in the prayer room of suggested prayer items, as well as a copy of the songs being sung for that particular morning. If you are interested in occasionally spending time in the prayer room covering our service in prayer, please let the church office know so that you can be added to the list.

Ladies! Are you interested in a Tuesday evening study group that would meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7pm in the church lobby? Terry Vander Woude is putting together a group and has a book for you to review.
