Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the August 28th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on Living by the Spirit, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “What does God say about ‘Submission’?”. The main Scripture for the day is Ephesians 5:21. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Ephesians 5:21, Philippians 2:1-8, John 10:30, Luke 22:42.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Heidelberg Catechism Q94, Q104

Belgic Confession Article 28

Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter XXIII.4

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

All to Jesus I surrender: Lyrics, Video

Everything and nothing less: Lyrics, Video

O perfect love, all human thought transcending: Lyrics, Video

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

What fears do you have about practicing submission?

How might you be able to give those fears over to God?

Is there a cost involved in submission? What is it?

Are you willing to pay the cost knowing that Christ paid the cost for you?

The Sermon will be available online on August 28, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
