Pastor Scott’s sermon for Jan. 19th is titled, “Government Exists to Praise Good Behavior and Punish Bad.” If you would like to read in preparation, the main sermon text is Romans 13:3-4.  You may find more ways to prepare your heart for worship on our website: hopeinchristchurch.org.  Click “Pastor,” then choose “Preparing Our Hearts for Worship” from the dropdown list.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their    spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Aaron & Megan S: Isaac, Thaddeus, Miriam
  • Roland & Esther V
  • Ruth S
  • Kylie T
  • Donna V

Pray for Pastor Lawan Andimi in Nigeria: Jos, Nigeria, January 7, 2020 (Morning Star News) A leader of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) pleaded for help on a video released on Sunday (Jan. 5) after Islamic extremists with Boko Haram kidnapped him last week.

Pastor Andimi…pleads with church leaders to ask Adamawa Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri to intervene for his release in the video.

“I believe that He who made them to act in such a way is still alive and will make all arrangements,” he says. “By the grace of God I will be together with my wife, my children and my colleagues…If the opportunity has not been granted, maybe it is the will of God. I want all people close and far, colleagues, to be patient. Don’t cry, don’t worry but thank God for everything.”

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move      forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Intentional Evangelism  (Matthew 28:18-20)

  • We are burdened for the spiritual condition of those who do not yet know Christ.
  • We have identifiable pathways for evangelism to take place in our ministries.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to build spiritual friendships and know how to share their faith as God-‐birthed opportunities arise.
