Sermon Outline

What’s up with Dan? (Judg 18:1a, 21:25)

a.     Lack of Trust (Judg 18:1b, Num 26:43, Judg 1:34, Josh 19:47, Dt 27-28, Prov 3:5-6)

b.     Lack of faithfulness and obedience (Judg 18:9-10)

                                               i.     First, they are willing to abandon their assigned portion.

                                             ii.     Second, the men they send return with an eager report and the struggle to get folks to go.

c.     Looking to make their own way

d.     Will they choose God or idols?

                                               i.     The Levite’s response is interesting (Judg 18:4, Jer 29:26, Heb 5:1, 8:3)

                                             ii.     “under the eye of the Lord” (Gen 6:8, 1Ki 15:5, Ps 33:18, Prov 5:21, Amos 9:8)

                                            iii.     A detour at Micah’s house (Judg 18:14)

e.     Kill the innocent and unsuspecting (Judg 18:27, 30)

False worship/Idolatry can easily trip us up too.

a.     Ways we lack trust, faithfulness and obedience

b.     Ways we try to make false religion look good.

c.     Ways we entice one another to sin

We need a King to rule us!

a.     What would a king do?

                                               i.     Restrain our madness

                                             ii.     Enforce his law

                                            iii.     Punish evildoers

                                            iv.     Change our heart

b.     Christ is king!
