Crying out to God

Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-44)

      1. Context
        1. End of Jesus’ life, on the final night,
        2. Gethsemane
        3. Importance of Prayer (Mt 26:36-27)
        4. Prayer is supposed to be a group event (Mt 26:36-37)
          1. Sitting, watching, praying are all words meant as an invitation to join with Jesus in seeking the Father. (Mt 26:36, 38, 40, 41)
          2. But Jesus is Alone as he prays (v.39, 42, 44)

Depth of Jesus’ cries (Mt 26:37-39)

      1. The adjectives and Adverbs
      2. If it be possible… (v39)

The Cup of Suffering (Mt 26:39)

      1. OT context (Ps 116:13, Jer 16:7, Eze 23:33, Isa 51:17)
      2. NT context (Rev 14:10, 16:19)

Submitting to the Father takes time (Mt 26:40, 42)

Bringing it home today

      1. Speak from your inner being
      2. Invite someone to pray with you
      3. Remember The good news is that Jesus is interceding for you today, from his heart.
