How Low will Israel Go?

1. 1. 1. 1. Marriage is in danger (Judg 19:1-2, Lev 21:7, Gen 2, Eph 5, 1Cor 7)
         2. Hospitality is missing (Judg 19:12)
         3. Sexual depravity is burgeoning (Judg 19:22ff, Gen 19)
         4. Justice is perverted (Judg 20-21)

Applying the Story to our Context

1. 1. 1. 1. First, we have to realize that this is the state that the people of God fell into (Canons 5.5)
         2. Second, we are forced to answer the question, “Who is the King in our lives?” (WLC 99)
         3. Diagnostic Questions
            1. When you are faced with a decision do you search the Word of God for what to do or do you rely on your own wisdom or the wisdom of others?
            2. When you know what God’s word declares do you actually do it, or do you find reasons why it is to be disobeyed?
            3. Do you obey the Lord even when you don’t understand why his word tells you what to do?
            4. Is your life ordered by God’s priorities or by your priorities and you fit God’s in when it is convenient?
            5. Do you enjoy time with God or is it a chore/task you do?

The Gospel

1. 1. 1. 1. The good news of all of this is that the story of Scripture and God’s work in Israel didn’t end at the end of Judges!
         2. The Gospel is that God raised up a king who changes hearts!
