1. Persecution has always been a part of the Church (Lk 4:28-29, Jn 5:16-18, Mk 3:21, Acts 4:20-21, 5:28-40, 8:1, 12:1-5, 16:16ff, 19:21ff, 14:19, 23:12ff)
2. Four Reasons for Persecution
   1. Hatred of Jesus (Jn 15:18)
   2. Election (Jn 15:19)
   3. Ignorance of God the Father (Jn 15:20-21, 16:3, Rom 1:18ff, John 3:19-20)
   4. Sin has been laid bare by the presence of Jesus among them (Jn 15:22-24)
3. 3 Manners of Persecution
   1. Hate you (Jn 15:18)
   2. Excommunication (Jn 16:2)
   3. Death (Jn 16:2, acts 7:54-60, 8:9ff)
4. Why is Jesus telling us all of this?
   1. We are not greater than the Lord (Jn 15:20, 13:16)
   2. Keep us faithful (Jn 16:1)
