Importance of Praying Scripture

    1. To pray the Scriptures is to tap into the very heart and desire of God
    2. Some examples:
      1. Mary’s Magnificat (Lk 1:46-55) // Hannah’s prayer (1Sam 2:1-10)
      2. Believer’s Prayer for Boldness (Acts 4:23-31) // Gen 1, Ps 2, et al.
      3. The Lord’s Prayer (Mt 6:9-13)

The OT Background to the Lord’s Prayer (Mt 6:9-13)

    1. Our Father (Isa 63:16, 64:8, 2Sam 7:14, 1Chr 17:13, Ps 103:13, Jer 31:9)
    2. In heaven (2 Chronicles 20:6; Psalms 115:3, 16; Isaiah 57:15; 66:1)
    3. Hallowed be your name (Lev 10:3, 1Chr 17:24, Ps 72:19, Is 6:3, Eze 38:23)
    4. Your kingdom come (1Sam 8:7, Dan 2:44, 7:13-14, Ps 2:6, Isa 9:6-7)
    5. Your will be done (Ps 143:10, Dan 4:34ff)

    10. And lead us not into temptation (Dt 8:2, Ps 125:5, 27:11, James 1:13-14, 1Cor 10:13, Gen 24, Prov 16:29, 30:8, Is 3:12, 9:16)
    11. But deliver us from evil (Ps 121:7-8, 56:13)

Application for this Week

    1. Found your praise upon the Word
    2. Found your intercession upon the Word
    3. Found your hopes, aspirations, strength upon the Word
    4. As you read the Word, pause and reflect and ask yourself – How can I pray this? Then pray it.
