Don’t Grieve the Holy Spirit- Preparing our Hearts to Worship

Don’t Grieve the Holy Spirit- Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the April 10th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on the ministry of the Holy Spirit, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “Don’t Grieve the Holy Spirit”. The main Scripture for the day is Ephesians 4:30-31. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Ephesians 4:30-31, 5:18-20, Luke 6:45, Ezekiel 11:19, John 16:8.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Canons of Dordt, 5th Main Point, Article 4-6

Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 17

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

Are there things in your life of which God has been convicting you?

What might blessing someone you are angry with look like?

Read and reflect on Douglas Kuiper’s 2012 Standard Bearer Article, “Grieve Not the Spirit”: Sins Against the Holy Spirit (3). Grieving and Quenching the Holy Spirit.
