The Guilt Offering of Leviticus 6

Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the July 31st, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on how and when something more is needed to repair a relationship in which sin is involved, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “The Guilt Offering: Making amends for our sin”. The main Scripture for the day is Leviticus 5:24-6:7. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Leviticus 5:14-6:7, 7:1-10, Numbers 6:9-12, Matthew 5:36-37, Luke 19:1-9, Isaiah 53:1-10.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Belgic Confession, Article 21

Westminster Larger Catechism, Question 141-142

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

Christ our sacrifice: Lyrics

Once Again: Lyrics, Video

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

Read this devotion article from Henry Law on the Guilt Offering. What Hope does it give you?

Have you sinned against someone recently?

Have you apologized to them?

Have you made amends and repaid them for the damage you have caused?

The Sermon will be available online on July 31, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
