Bulletin – Week of September 11, 2016

Voltaire, an 18th-century French philosopher, wrote, “Friendship, gift of heaven, delight of great souls … is the marriage of the soul.” We welcome all who have come to worship as either friends or potential friends, or better still, as brothers and sisters in Christ.

 Message: Christ in Children

 Scripture: Eph. 6:1-3

Offering: General Fund

Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Bill Brewster, Dan Grover, Jerry and Faye Hop, Victor Johnson, Mark Ireland, Jay and Avis Kaemingk. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

Mike Button underwent surgery this past week, which was successful. We pray for a full and complete healing for him.

Lee & Arlene Veenstra will be volunteering with World Renew Disaster Response Services from September 17-October 8 in San Marcos, TX due to flooding in May & October, 2015. Please support them as a congregation with your prayers while they are on this assignment.  Pray for safety, good health, a meaningful experience with opportunities to touch and give hope to hurting people in this relief ministry.

Announcements:

Our sermon next Sunday will be “You Will Be A Blessing.” Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

Farah’s family story is a story of rebellion and reconciliation between her and her Father, Tass Saada, who was a former terrorist and persecutor. Come hear her story next week as she talks about her life, the family’s conversion and their work in Israel.

Salad Potluck Friday evening at 6:00 before the Vitality Communication Workshop. The workshop will start at 7:00 on Friday evening and at 9:00 Saturday morning. The doors will open on Saturday morning at 8:30 for coffee. Please remember that if you’re planning on attending the workshop, you will need to be here for both sessions, Friday evening and Saturday (till 5:00). Child care will be provided for the whole workshop as will lunch on Saturday. Please place your sign-up slips in the box in the back of the sanctuary today so we’ll know how much food to provide for Saturday’s lunch.

Join some of the council members attending the Family Promise Community Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15th, 7pm, at Assumption Church Gym. Information about this program is in this month’s “Heartbeat.” Please contact Ali Laninga if you plan to attend this event. Come receive more information on how our church can help put an end to homelessness in Whatcom County.

Our annual holiday bazaar will be held Nov. 18 from 4-8pm and Nov. 19 from 9-4. We already are taking reservations to have a table at this event. Forms are located on the information stand and from the church office to reserve your table. Feel free to share the form with others so we can have a variety of vendors at this year’s event. Terry Vander Woude would love your feed-back and help on how to make this year’s bazaar even better.

We will soon be collecting hats, gloves, jackets, scarves for the annual Coat Drive sponsored by Interfaith Coalition, so time to put aside those items that the kids have outgrown or you don’t wear any more. These items may also be purchased at Value Village or Goodwill if you wish to purchase items to donate.

NW WORSHIP COLLABORATIVE: Join us again this year for the second annual Northwest Worship Collaborative Conference held at North County Christ the King on Saturday, October 8 from 9:00am – 4:00pm. This one-day conference will include worship from a community worship band, teaching from local pastors, worship leaders and an invaluable chance for you to connect with worship teams in your area. The cost is only $35 per person (includes a healthy lunch)!  Just imagine what God can do as His Church unites for the purpose of worshiping Him! For more information, checkout nwworshipcollaborative.com.

If you are volunteering in any of our programs that involve the children or Friendship, you are required to agree in writing to have a background check. The form to authorize the background check can be found on the information stand in the foyer or from the church office. The completed forms are kept in a secure location and a copy of the background check may be obtained from the church office.
