 Scripture: Eph. 6:15-17

 Offering: Benevolence Fund

 Oct. 30, 2016

 Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Lanny and Christine Speyer, Ruth Stadt, Kylie Thramer, Donna Van Beek, John and Jean Van Hemert, Roland and Esther Vanden Bos. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

Jerry & Faye Hop will be volunteering with World Renew Disaster Response Services from October 29 – November 19 in San Marcos, TX due to flooding in May & October, 2015. Please support them with your prayers while they are on this assignment. Pray for safety, good health, a meaningful experience with opportunities to touch and give hope to hurting people in this relief ministry.

We continue to lift up in prayer Connie Knutson and Tena Vanderpol and their spouses and family as they both pursue cancer treatment. A meal train has been set up for Connie and Don Knutson. Speak to Alice Brakke if you would like to provide a meal for the Knutsons.

Ruth Stadt is recovering at home with her broken leg. So far it appears surgery will not be necessary, as long as she continues to keep weight off the leg and the break does not shift.

Mike Button was released from the hospital this past Wednesday afternoon. We give praise that his surgery went well.

Announcements:

Our sermon next Sunday will be “The Greatest Weapon” based on Eph. 6:18-20. Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

Today is our all-church potluck, which will be held following the Sunday school hour. Please stay and join us.

Vitality Pathway Announcement: Please plan to join us today (Sunday, Oct 30) during the Sunday School hour (starting at 11AM) for Part 1 of our Vitality discussion. We will break for the potluck lunch at noon and resume discussion for Part 2 after lunch. Part 1 will be a review of page 1 of the packet you received last Sunday. It will be in a Q&A format. Part 2 will be a review of the VIM questions (page 3 of the handout) and the beginning discussion about the future ministry direction of Hope in Christ Church led by your Elder/Deacon team. People will have a chance to discuss that and then to answer this question: “What is Jesus calling us to do today and what changes, if any, are needed?” We trust our recent Communications Workshop will aid us to make good progress as we seek to become a healthy, missional church. Can we count on you to participate?

Servants Next Sunday, Nov. 6: Greeters: Lisa Oppenhuizen and Joe Pruitt; Snacks: Lorraine Brouwer and Lisa DeSalvo; Serving Assistants: Abee, Amber, Chantel, Caleb; Ushers: Deloris Perry and Helen Bowman; Prayer Room: Del Bosman; Sunday school: Jolene Skovron and Diane Button; Children and Worship: Bekah Roberts and Ali Laninga.

LYNDEN CHRISTMAS CHURCH CHOIR CANTATA: Calling all singers! Dec. 11 at 4 & 6 p.m. at Third CRC will be the seventh annual Lynden Christmas Church Choir Cantata. We will be performing Joseph Martin’s “Journey of Promises” with full orchestra. Rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden. Subsequent rehearsals will be Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30, and a dress rehearsal on Dec. 7. Music scores will be $11 each. Singers high school age and up are invited to join your voice in praise and commemoration of the birth of our Savior!

This Wednesday is our church’s day to spend twenty-four hours in prayer. Enclosed is a list of suggested prayer subjects. Please take one hour to spend in prayer, even if you are not on the list.

Our GEMS girls are again doing the Butter Braids Fundraiser. The girls will have a table in the foyer for people to order in time for Thanksgiving. This is our service project and the profits will go to the Esther School.

Love, INC is looking for families/groups to donate a Thanksgiving basket for families who have contacted their office. Information about the baskets may be obtained from the church office or through Love, INC.

Our annual bazaar will soon be here and lots of help is needed to make this event successful. A sign-up sheet is on the information stand in the foyer and there are tables still available to sell your crafts.

It’s time to update our costume wardrobe for the Children’s Christmas program. I am looking for volunteers to sew some simple garments for all sizes to use for this program. If you are at all interested, which I hope you are, please let me know. I could really use someone that is willing to be the coordinator of this project, so if that interests you, let me know ASAP! The Christmas program will be December 4th. A mandatory dress rehearsal will be December 3rd. Thank you so much, Diane Button

Please join us! The Boers will be hosting at their home an evening Bible study on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 6:30pm starting November 22.  We will be studying Hebrews. Give us a call at 380-0921 with any questions.

The November issue of “The Heartbeat,” our monthly newsletter, is available this morning in print and on the web site.
