The Rest of the Armor
Preparing our Hearts to Worship
In an effort to help you prepare for the November 6th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on The Armor of God, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “The Rest of the Armor”. The main Scripture for the day is Ephesians 6:15-17. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.
(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)
From the Scriptures
Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:
Read or listen to Ephesians 6:14, Isaiah 52:7, Hebrews 4:12, 2Timothy 1:8, 2:8.
(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)
From the Creeds and Confessions
Heidelberg Catechism Q21
Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter XIV
From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church
Standing on the promises: Lyrics, Video
For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study
What role did scripture play in Christ’s defeat of Satan?
Why do Christians shy away from memorizing scripture and studying theology if it is our offensive weapon in the spiritual battle?
What passages of Scripture would be most helpful when doubt comes? Temptation? Unforgiveness?
What is your testimony? Can you tell it in 30 seconds, 2 minutes and 5 minutes?
Read Donna Reinhard’s article The Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20)
The Sermon will be available online on November 6, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
