Bulletin – Week of January 1, 2017

Rejoice, brothers and sisters, as we serve God in the New Year. May our hearts overflow with love for God and for one another. Reach out in Christian love to welcome one another. We are pleased by your presence!

Message: Service of Consecration

Offering: General Fund

Prayer Requests and Praise

This week we are asked to pray for Dale and Deloris Perry, Joe Pruitt, Debra Reamer, Mona Reardon, Don and Darlys Recker and Darrel Renne. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

Faye Hop is recovering from successful surgery to repair her leg that was broke in a fall at church last week. If you would like to sign up to bring them a meal, please contact the church office for information.

Tricia Bravener’s friend Tracy and her family have received the sad news that their unborn child has Trisomy 18 and not expected to live for very long after his birth.

David DeSalvo’s nephew Dave Bartlow has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Barb Kinsey’s father passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening. His service will be Thursday at noon at Greenacres in Ferndale. Donations of goodies for the service would be appreciated and may be dropped off at the church office on Wednesday.

Lou Kooistra’s mother passed away this past Thursday evening.

Mike Button’s father was hospitalized on Thursday and the family was gathering around him as he was not expected to live for very long.

Announcements:

This morning our service will be a Service of Consecration and will include some short reflections, accompanied by songs, prayers, confessions and assurances.

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn. We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy. However, it may contain egg.

Our offering this morning is for the Kingdom Advancement Fund (General Fund). The Deacons will not be passing the collection baskets during the service. Instead you are asked to place your donation in a basket that will be placed on the small table at the back of the sanctuary.

Don and Tena Vanderpol are celebrating their 50th anniversary this morning. It is also their 50th anniversary as members of our church. We are grateful for their friendship and membership at Hope in Christ Church. So join us after the service for cake and beverage.

The Lynden site is one of 50 remote webcast sites across the continent, joining a daily audience of about 3,000 people a day. For more information about the speakers, topics, remote sites and listening options, visit the website at www.calvin.edu/january. Don’t miss out on this chance to hear fabulous lectures and experience a piece of Calvin College right here in Whatcom County.

Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the January issue of The Heartbeat, our monthly newsletter.

The Women’s Wednesday morning Bible study group is scheduled to begin this Wednesday at 9:45 (social) with the lesson to begin around 10 am. If there is inclement weather (snow!), the group will not meet. The group will be studying the book of “Hebrews.” Ruth Stadt

The church office has a second email account that is being used to send group announcements. You may want to check your account to make sure it is not moving the announcements to your “junk” folder before you see it.

Anyone who wishes to participate on the worship team vocals, instrumentalists, sound, or power point are asked to contact Melissa Koning as she is working on a new schedule and this would be a great time to join.

Contact Mike Boer to join the team being put together to plan the remodel of the Administration Building.
