The Wickedness of Nineveh Jonah 1:1-2

The Wickedness of Nineveh Jonah 1:1-2

Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the January 8th, 2017, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on Sin, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “The Wickedness of Nineveh”. The main Scripture for the day is Jonah 1:1-2. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Jonah 1, Nahum 1:11-14, 2:9, 3:1-4, 3:19

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Heidelberg Catechism Q6

Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 33

Westminster Larger Catechism Q28-29

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

What is the worst kind of place you can imagine?

Do you think God cares about this place and would work to redeem it?

What would it take for you to go to this worst place and preach the gospel?

Can you pray for this place to have laborers sent to it?

What is the judgment rightfully due to the wicked?

The Sermon will be available online on January 8, 2017 at 12:30 pm.
