Bulletin – Week of February 5, 2017

Whoever you are and wherever you come from, you are welcome! May the presence of the Almighty bless and comfort you, so that you leave here

renewed and prepared for the week ahead.

Message: Yours For The Asking

Scripture:  1 John 5:14-15

Offering: Kingdom Advancement Fund

Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Ken and Elaine Wick, Joe and Barb Zylstra, Ken Anderson, Elaine Barringer and Mabel Benedict. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

Darrel Renne fell this past weekend and broke his elbow. We lift him up in prayer for a speedy recovery.

Announcements:

This morning we welcome Pastor Alvin Vander Griend to our pulpit. Pastor Vander Griend will be sharing God’s Word with us.

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn. We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see one of the elders after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy. However, it may contain egg.

Our sermon next Sunday will be “Sent Again” based on Jonah 3:1-10. Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

Deloris Perry will be handing out packages of chicken to some of our church families today after the service. This is part of the donation from Zaycon for the use of our parking lot.

Super Bowl party at the Church TODAY! Brian Koning will lead a TAG discussion during half time. Come with snacks and drinks to share.  Doors open at 3 pm. Don’t forget your blanket and slippers!

Jessie Figenbaum is turning 98 on Feb. 15. We want to “shower” her with birthday cards. We will have a basket in the lobby on Sunday, Feb. 12th, for you to put a birthday card in for Jessie. The cards will be delivered to her on her birthday.

Hope in Christ Church participates in the “safe church” program. One of the suggestions of the program is to have two adults in each class- room during Sunday school. Since this is not feasible, the council has decided that one volunteer each Sunday will observe the classrooms during Sunday school. If you wish to volunteer to be one of the observers or have a question, please contact the church office.

Servants Next Sunday, Feb. 12: Greeters: Lisa Oppenhuizen and Helen Bowman; Snacks: Ruth Stadt and Donna Van Beek; Serving Assistants: Michal, Maggie, Grace, Clara; Ushers: Deloris Perry and Elaine Snapper; Prayer Room: Len Vander Woude; Sunday school: Christine Speyer and Ida Richards; Children and Worship: Diane Button and Amber Obbink.

The Lighthouse Mission’s first “Light In the Night Gala” will be Feb. 25 at 6:30 at Settlemeyer Hall at Bellingham Technical College. The event will support the men and women at the Mission’s drop-in center. The cost is $45; if you reserve a table of eight you receive one free ticket. To order tickets or for more information, call 671-1562 or visit thelighthousemission.org.

Love INC is looking for five more phone call volunteers for its Calling Center. If you are available sometime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, call the office at 671-6201.

The Deacons wish to thank the congregation for their generous donation last Sunday to the Benevolence Fund. A check for $1,000 was sent to Love in the Name of Christ to be used to assist those in need with their heating bills.

Calling all campers. Several church families are camping in Birch Bay July 13-16 and at Deception Pass from Aug 10-13. For both weekends, we are in the vicinity of campsite #150. Book your own campsite and stay overnight. If overnight doesn’t work, consider coming for a day trip.  Contact Jennifer Boer if interested.

A copy of the PULSE questionnaire is available for those who would rather take the survey on paper. Once you have completed the questionnaire you may drop it off at the office in a sealed envelope if you want to keep your responses anonymous. Terry will then submit your answers via the computer.

The GEMS baked potato dinner and Bunko annual fund raiser was cancelled last Friday evening due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for March 5, at 5:30pm. Plan to join the GEMS for a fun dinner and an evening of games (staying for the games is optional).
