BIBLE READING FOR THIS WEEK
Please spend time reading through Psalms 66-78 in preparation for the next sermon on Sunday, Aug. 26th. The sermon title is, “Enemies,” and the main scripture will be Psalm 68.
PRAYERS
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
- Darryl & Gloria G
- Dan G
- Jerry & Faye H
- Junior J
- Jay & Avis K
- Marilyn K
GEMS, Friendship Class, Youth Sunday School: Please pray for Darlys, Tanya, Diane, and all of the leaders and helpers of their programs. This is the time of year when volunteers are sought, calendars are set, materials are purchased, and lessons are prepared. Pray for wisdom, time, patience, and joy for these women as they serve the Lord by bringing His word to the students He has placed in their care.
Seafarers’ Prayer and Care: Please remember to pray for the lonely seafarers and their families. If you would like to help, the Seafarers Ministry needs good and Christian magazines, CDs and DVDs. They also are looking for more sponsors to fund the mission. To help or for more information, please contact the chaplain, Pastor John, at (561) 351-1239, or pastorvanhemert@gmail.com.
Pray for LOVE INC: Pray for Shannon and all of the decisions that she and the board of directors need to make for their organization. Pray for God to provide for all of their needs, specifically phone call volunteers for its Calling Center. They need folks to serve between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. any days Mondays through Thursdays.
MISSIONAL MARKER
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Centrality of the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)
- We believe that the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct.
- Our preaching and teaching in all settings reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity.
- Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Memorial Service: There will be a service in the worship center at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 25th for Connie Knutson. Cookies, bars, and breads for the fellowship time afterwards would be appreciated. Please bring them to the foyer and label them for the memorial service.
Family Promise Volunteers: Our next week to serve with Family Promise at First Christian Church is September 2-9. There will be a short meeting after church next week (August 26) for a chance to sign up for various ways to serve.
Church Directory: It is time for a new church photo directory! We are looking for someone to volunteer to take photos of each family, and one or two people to help the photographer. The directory will be done in-house (so no pressure to purchase pictures!) and it will be printed by the church. If you would like to help, please let the church office know. Once we have our volunteers, they will set the dates and times to begin.
Children’s Sunday School: Calling all past, present, and future Sunday school teachers! It’s time to pick your spots for teaching our amazing kids in the two classes we have for the 2018/2019 church year. Sunday school starts September 9th, and ends June 2. You will find the sign up sheet in the August edition of the Heartbeat and posted in the foyer near the credenza. You have the option of signing up for a consecutive three week unit or six week unit. Please look closely at the dates listed in the units, as there are some breaks in the dates due to holidays or events.
Kids’ Craft Camp: Darlys will have Kids’ Craft Camp again this summer to share some fun craft time with friends before school starts. Crafters from first-grade age through adult are welcome to come Monday and Tuesday, August 20 and 21 to the foyer from 10 AM to 4 PM. A registration flyer is available in the foyer on the shelf by the bulletins. Adults are welcome to join the fun and help as needed.
