By the Sea of Crystal

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Faye & Jerry H
  • Junior J
  • Jay & Avis K
  • Marilyn K
  • Wilma K
  • Don K

Pray for Christians in Kenya: After a family in southeast Kenya put their faith in Christ this month, Muslims gave them one day to return to Islam or be killed, the father said. The family has since moved from one Christian home to another, and the couple have hidden their children in a place of refuge. “We were given a day to either recant the Christian faith or face the sword, as well as lose all the privileges the Muslims had given to us,” Abdul Abuk-Bakr of Sera village, Garsen, told Morning Star News…We are at crossroads, not knowing what to do – no home, no food, life-threatening environment and children away from us,” he said. “At times we are missing peace. My wife has been having sleepless nights thinking about the children. We really need prayers to remain in the Christian faith and the peace that comes from God.” Nov. 23, 2018, Nairobi, Kenya (Morning Star News)

(CRC) Pray for chaplains: Chaplaincy is a healing, reconciling ministry of God, an expression and extension of God’s activity and mission in the world. The CRC endorses 140 chaplains to embody the grace of Christ in our communities. Join us in praying for and supporting the ministries of chaplains everywhere.

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:  Global perspective and engagement (Acts 1:8)

  • We raise the sights of our members beyond our congregation and community by developing a Biblical worldview and often pray for and reference global matters.
  • We have identifiable pathways to support the cause of Christ globally.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to participate in the global dimensions of our ministry.

GEMS Annual Fundraiser: The GEMS girls are available to take your orders for Butter Braids and cookies this morning. Look for their table in the foyer after the worship service today! Orders need to be in by November 26th. Your purchases are greatly appreciated and will help the club to cover costs for various events.

Christmas Program Candy: The Sunday School Christmas program is approaching, and Diane  would like to prepare treat bags for the children and young adults to receive. Would you be willing to donate some candy for them? There will be 40 bags assembled. Please place the  donations in the box in the church office by December 1st.

Friendship Class Christmas Program: The Friendship Class invites you to their Christmas performance on  Monday evening, December 10th at 7:00 p.m. The students are already practicing Christmas carols and their lines for the play – you won’t want to miss it! Please add to Friendship’s collection for the food bank by bringing  non-perishable items when you come.

Prepare Your Heart: Starting December 3, World Renew and the CRC Office of Social Justice will distribute free email devotionals during Advent in 2018. Don’t let Christmas presents overtake the Christmas Presence. Sign up to receive reflections on this year’s theme, Holy Impatience, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Christmas Day. The series will explore doing justice in a world that belongs to God, a world where so many are both celebrating glimpses of the kingdom and eagerly yearning for it. Go to crcna.org/advent to sign up today!

Handel’s ‘Messiah’ Coming Soon: Come to G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” featuring soprano Katie VanKooten and the Starry Night Orchestra on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at Third CRC. Presented by the Lynden Choral Society, which is celebrating its 100th year. There is a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students.
