How Marvelous

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn.  We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy. It may contain egg.

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on    your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Chris & Jeanette M: Abigail, Kaitlyn, Anthony
  • Don N
  • Steve & Gina N
  • Dan & Tanya O: Amber, Chantel, Micah
  • Lisa O

Pray for the Church in Africa:  NAIROBI, Kenya, November 22, 2019 (Morning Star News)

A Christian father of four in Uganda was discharged from a hospital on Monday (Nov. 18), eight days after Muslim relatives poisoned his food for leaving Islam, sources said. Ronald Rajab Nayekuliza, 48, had eaten food tainted with pesticide at a memorial for his deceased father in Kakola village, Namutumba District in eastern Uganda on Nov. 10, he told Morning Star News.

His wife said the poisoning struck fear in the Christian community. “The members of the church are gripped with fear and failed to attend church service on Sunday, Nov. 18,” she told Morning Star News, requesting her name be withheld. “We need prayers so that God may guide us as we face uncertainty of tomorrow within a hostile environment of Muslim relatives.”

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:  Sacrificial and Generous Living and Giving (Romans 12:1-8)

  • We help people discover, develop, and deploy their spiritual gifts.
  • We regularly, graciously, and unapologetically teach on the importance of financial stewardship in the spiritual growth of the Christian.
  • We have many examples of lifestyle choices being made on the basis of stewardship and the priority God plays in the lives of our members.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Friendship Christmas Program: The program this year, “Promises Made, Promises Kept,” will be presented on Dec. 9th at 7:00 p.m.  Don’t miss it!

Children’s Christmas Program: Next Sunday, Dec. 8th, the Sunday school and Children & Worship classes will be presenting the Christmas drama, “The Word Became Flesh” as the worship service. There will not be Sunday School for adults or children today or next Sunday.  This morning the sanctuary will be used  for practice. We request that adults vacate the sanctuary following the worship service.

Giving Tree: Hope in Christ Church is collecting Christmas gifts for three families that are part of New Way Ministries’ “Adopt a Family” program. You may take a tag from the tree in the foyer to participate.  Maybe a friend would like to contribute too, and you could share the cost of a gift together.  Here are the directions:

  • Step 1: Wrap gifts and label the outside of each present with the letter and number assigned to you (find this on the tag from the tree). Also, place any gift cards in an envelope and mark the amount.
  • Step 2: When finished wrapping and labeling, place all presents and gift cards under the tree by Sunday, Dec. 15.

GEMS Food Bank Donations: Please find the GEMS table where you will see some suggestions for food items that you might like to bring  for the GEMS to deliver to the food bank.

GEMS Butter Braids:  The girls are selling butter braids again this year, so be sure to find a GEMS member and place your order today. The orders will be completed and sent in tomorrow.

Sunday School Helpers Needed: Would you like to help children’s Sunday school? Please see the sign-up clipboard in the foyer and add your name to one of the empty spots. We need someone to sign-up soon for Dec. 15, 22, and Jan. 5 with the Marvel class.

Adult Sunday School Books: Please visit the book table in the foyer to pick up a letter from Ida Richards, and to preview the books that we will be using after Believe.  Let us know that you will be participating by signing the book list and noting which books we may order for you. If you are able to help with  the cost, suggested donations are listed on the information board.

Dynamic Duo Departing Decorating Duty: After 27 years of being “The Dynamic Decorating Duo” at Hope in Christ, Christine and Ida are ready to hand this job over to an upcoming team! Please let them know if you are interested in helping with this. They feel that new eyes will bring exciting changes and a fresh perspective to the church’s visual enhancement! There is an entire room upstairs filled with seasonal decorating items and there is a fund allocated in the budget for decorating.
