Welcome to Hope in Christ Church! We are so glad you have joined us today. After the service, we invite you to stay for refreshments and fellowship, followed by Sunday School at 11:00. There are various small groups that meet during the week as well. You are welcome to visit and find one that is right for you!

Bible Reading for this Week

Pastor Scott’s sermon for Dec. 22nd is titled, “Jesus Came So We Can Know God.” The scripture is Galatians 4: 4-9.

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Deloris P
  • Chris P
  • Joe P
  • Bridger R
  • Debra R
  • Mona R
  • Don & Darlys R

Pray for Christians in Northern Kenya:

NAIROBI, Kenya (Morning Star News, Dec. 9) – Suspected members of Somali Islamic extremist group Al Shabaab intercepted a bus in northern Kenya on Friday (Dec. 6), separated out those who were not local ethnic Somali Muslims and executed them, sources said ….A witness who escaped told a Morning Star News contact that the assailants separated out 11 Kenyan workers from the interior (assumed to be Christians) from local residents, assumed to be ethnic Somali Muslims …“We have lost two teachers who used to attend our church,” the source from a congregation in northern Kenya (undisclosed for security reasons) told Morning Star News.

Somalia is ranked 3rd on Christian support group Open Doors’ 2019 World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian; Kenya is ranked 40th.

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Culture of Godly Leadership (Hebrews 13:7)

  • Our leaders at all levels serve with character, competence, and conviction.
  • A spirit of collegiality pervades, with our people trusting our leaders and our leaders trusting our people.
  • We continually identify and train godly leaders for all dimensions of our ministry.

Family Promise: Kudos and thank you to all who volunteered for Family Promise this week. We were able to bless the families with meals, fellowship, and a place to sleep during a very stressful time in their lives. For those who volunteered to do laundry, the black plastic bags will be in the foyer for you to pick up. You can bring the clean laundry back next Sunday.

GEMS Food Bank Donations: Please find the GEMS table where you will see some suggestions for food items that you might like to bring  for the GEMS to deliver to the food bank.

Cookies for the Women’s Cold Weather Shelter: If anyone would like to provide homemade cookies for the women’s cold weather shelter, please let Terry V know. The shelter is hosting approximately 40-45 women every night. Terry and Len will be volunteering at the shelter and can deliver cookie donations.

Lighthouse Mission’s “Drive for Joy”: Please place UNWRAPPED items in the box near the Christmas tree in the foyer before Friday. The items will be delivered on Dec. 20.  For those who are chronically homeless, these gifts are a huge blessing:

  • handwarmers
  • hats
  • gloves
  • deodorant (men’s & women’s)
  • razors
  • toothbrushes/paste
  • lip balm
  • candy canes
  • hot chocolate packets
  • puzzle books
