Bible Reading for this Week

Pastor Scott will be speaking from Psalm 146 on January 5th. The sermon title is “The Kingdom of God is the Foundation for Political Life.”

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Doug & Jan S
  • Joanne S
  • Vicki S
  • Mitch & Rochelle S:  Jonathan, Elisha, Peter
  • Keith S

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is: Centrality of the Word of God   (2Timothy 3:16)

  • We believe that the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct.
  • Our preaching and teaching in all settings reflects careful preparation, relevance, and creativity.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to study and apply Biblical truth in ways that lead to a scripturally integrated life.

Cookies for the Women’s Cold Weather Shelter: If anyone would like to provide homemade cookies for the women’s cold weather shelter, please let Terry V know. The shelter is hosting approximately 40-45 women every night. Terry and Len will be volunteering at the shelter and can deliver cookie donations.

New Year’s Eve Movie Night: Please join us for a New Year’s Eve movie night at the church starting at 6 p.m. The movies that will be shown are: Prince of Egypt, Mary Poppins Returns, and Monster Trucks. Please bring a snack to share and game if you are able. Games and movies will be running at the same time, so you are welcome to participate in whatever suits your interests at the time. Whether you are able to come or not, we hope you have a happy New Year’s celebration!

Adult Sunday School: On January 5th, there will be prayer time. “Before Amen” sessions 1 and 2 will be on January 12 and 19. There will be a guest speaker on January 26, and then “Before Amen” sessions 3 and 4 will be on February 2 and 9.

January Heartbeat Newsletter: The January Heartbeat will be available next Sunday, January 5th.  Upcoming January birthdays are: Kaitlyn M on the 2nd; Elaine W on the 3rd, and Don S on the 7th. Happy Birthday!

Thank you from G.E.M.S: GEMS girls would like to thank everyone who supported the recent Butter Braids, Cookies and Pastry Puffs fundraiser. With your help we raised $500.50. This money will help fund summer camp.  We also have a dream to visit the Esther School in Zambia. This trip is currently on the calendar for July 2021. Please pray for God’s guidance as we set a time and make plans to experience the Esther School firsthand. We continue to support the Esther School as a mission project and have “Loose Change Jars” that can be used to collect coins. If you have a jar that is getting heavy, turn it in to Darlys. A donation will be sent early February. If you don’t have a jar and would like one, they are on the credenza near the bulletins. For more information on the Esther School go to   https://www.estherschool.org/

Friendship Transportation Needed: Larry, our friend who previously attended HCC with Troy, needs a ride to and from Friendship on January 13 & 27, February 10 & 24, and March 9 &23. The person who usually drives him is unavailable. Friendship starts at 7 p.m. and ends around 8:15 p.m. Larry lives in Lynden on Double Ditch Rd.
