BIBLE READING THIS WEEK
Pastor Scott’s sermon next week is, “God is Not For or Against Political Parties,” and the main text is Joshua 5:13-18. The adult Sunday school class will be watching and discussing Session 4 of “Before Amen.”
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
- Bud & Lorraine B
- Marlene B
- Mike & Diane B
- Mike & Geralyn C: Josiah, Abigail, Bethany, Aleya, Emma, Nathanael, Alexander
Pray for the Church in Israel (January 30, ChristianResponse.org): Messianic Jews in Israel request prayer after potential trouble-makers took photographs inside the premises of Kehilat Hasdey Yeshua – a Messianic congregation in the Negev. Kehilat Hasdey Yeshua meets in a warehouse in the industrial part of the city of Arad, which has a large population of Gur Hasidim – strictly observant religious Jews. Previously, the Gur have actively opposed the Messianic congregation and in August 2017 a large group gathered outside the meeting place, cursing and hurling insults and later distributing flyers showing photos of members of the congregation. Please pray that:
- The photographs taken inside the congregation building would not be used to harass the congregation or any individuals appearing in them.
- Members of Kehilat Hasdey Yeshua will not be anxious and know God’s peace and protection individually and as a body.
- God will open the eyes of the Gur and Yad L’Achim that they would have a revelation of the One who they are persecuting and come to faith in Yeshua/Jesus
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:
HEARTFELT WORSHIP (Psalm 138:1a; John 4:23)
- We exalt and celebrate God for who he is, what he has done, what he is doing and what he will do.
- Worship reflects careful preparation to help give voice to many dimensions of response to God such as adoration, praise, contrition, lament, and commitment.
- People leave worship knowing something more about the heart of God and about their own hearts.
Save the Date for the GEMS Baked Potato and Bunko Event: The GEMS will be hosting their annual Baked Potato Dinner and Bunko Night fundraiser on Friday, March 6 beginning at 6 p.m. They will be serving baked potatoes with all the trimmings, chili, salad, and dessert followed by Bunko. Invite your neighbors and friends for an evening of fun and fellowship — you may even win a prize! The girls will be accepting donations for the dinner to help pay for GEMS ministry expenses.
Movie Night: The deacons are planning movie night for Friday, February 28th. Please mark your calendar so you won’t miss it!
Interfaith Hope Auction: Interfaith Coalition’s Hope Auction happens on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The auction will take place at the Four Points by Sheraton. Tickets are $70 each, including dinner. Interfaith Coalition makes a difference in the lives of homeless children and their families, and with your support, will be serving additional families through their new program, Family Promise. A father whose family stayed in Interfaith emergency housing shared his appreciation, “We want to thank Interfaith for giving me and my family a safe place to call home. It was a life changing experience. It took us out of our darkest moments and showed us the light of people who care.” To donate an auction item and/or purchase tickets, please contact Interfaith Coalition at 360-734-3983 or through the website: www.interfaith-coalition.org
Help Local Seafarer’s Ministry: Please remember the crews on ships that dock at Cherry Point this time of year. The Seafarer’s Ministry is looking for volunteers to be friends, pray and share their faith. They also can use winter socks, stocking hats, scarfs and personal hygiene items as well as Bibles, devotionals, books, magazines, puzzles, and candy bars. You can drop items off at 205 So. BC Ave., Lynden. To volunteer or for more information, call (360) 354-4700 or contact the chaplain, Pastor John, at email@example.com.
