Claiming the Physical Land of Promise

1. 1. 1. 1. 1. The League of Kings (Josh 10:1-3)
               1. On the surface, this seems natural
               2. Hebrew names have meaning
                  1. Jacob’s children (Gen 29:32-33)
                  2. The wells of Genesis (Gen 26:20-22, 33)
                  3. The names in these opening verses (Josh 10:1,3)
            2. Attacking the weaker party (Josh 10:4-5)
            3. Call in the heavyweights (Josh 10:6-7)
            4. God’s reassurance not to fear (Josh 10:8, 1:5)
            5. Surprise Attack (Josh 10:9-10)
            6. God’s miraculous deliverance (Josh 10:11-14, Ps 135:6)
            7. Finishing the business (Josh 10:16-11:23)

So what does all of this mean for us?

1. 1. 1. 1. 1. There are Many and Varied Alliances against God’s people (Eph 2:1-3, 6:12, James 4:1ff)
            2. Rely upon the Covenant that leads to Deliverance (Is 25:8, Jn 7:39, 1Jn 4:4, Rev 11:15, 1Cor 15:25, Acts 22:16, Lk 10:18-19, 1Th 5:11, Heb 3:13, 10:25, 12:2)
            3. Trust God to Fight for his people (Ps 56:4)
            4. Miracles may be part of the deliverance (1Cor 12:9)
            5. None of the enemy is to be left standing (Rev 20:11-15)
            6. Jesus is our example of every one of these (Lk 22-23, 24:1-50, Eph 1:22)
