Bulletin – Week of January 10, 2016

We heartily greet all worshipers in the name of Christ our Lord. It’s our goal to live as members of God’s family. Please extend your hand to greet one another warmly and sincerely.

Message: “A Healthy Church is Centered in the Word of God”

Scripture: 2 Tim. 3:10-17

Offering: General Fund

Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Phil and Jolene Skovron and children, Amber and William Smit, Karen Smith and Chris Pike, Don and Elaine Snapper, Aaron and Megan Speyer and children. Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

Jodi Meir was diagnosed with colon cancer this past week and will be meeting with a specialist on Monday. Pray for peace and comfort for her as the doctors determine the next step in possible treatment.

Roberta Maier continues to ask for prayers as she waits on the decision by L & I as to her claim and to see if her employer will hold her job for her.

Announcements:

The council would like to remind our members and regular attendees to sign up for the workshop that begins this Friday with a dinner at 5:30.

The church secretary will be on vacation for the next two weeks. Jenn Boer will be working in the office in the afternoons this week from 1-2:30 and Ellie Roberts will be working in the office the following week.

Our service next Sunday will be part three of the Healthy Church Series, “Heartfelt Worship” based on Psalm 33, 103. Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The bulletin, which includes the order of worship, is usually posted online by Friday afternoons and the monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

The monthly time of gathering for prayer will be next Sunday, Jan. 17th, during the Sunday school hour. There is also a group that meets every Sunday at 8 a.m. in the room above the foyer and they would love for you to join them.

A big thank you to the members of Hope in Christ Church! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide 25 meals at Thanksgiving to families in our community. By sharing your love in Christ, we are able to support those in need. May God bless you all. Thank you again, Cindy McKay, Love INC.

FRIDAY JAN 15 AT 6 PM the Veritas workshop begins by eating together at 6 pm with the seminar taking place from 7-9 pm. Saturday begins with a light breakfast at 8:30 am with the seminar from 9 -12. Please sign up to help with food on the list in the foyer. We have need for soup, bread, veggie trays or brownies. Don’t let the need for a ride keep you from attending.  Call Herm, Scott Emory or Faye and we will find a ride for you.

For the 29th year in a row, Calvin College will present its January Series, the award-winning, free liberal arts education delivered in 15 weekday lectures from Jan. 6 to 26 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. PST. Topics range from global health, interfaith leadership, the future of Russia, autism, justice in Honduras, cyber security in a shrinking world and more. Watch the live feed at the Youth House of Third CRC. For more information, contact Carol DeJong (354-1448 or admin@third-church.org) or visit www.calvin.edu/january.

Hear sixteen leading Christian scholars, including former Muslims, speak on key issues related to Islam. This free video podcast will be shown at Third CRC on Jan 15 (7-9pm) and Jan. 16 (9am-3:30pm, with a lunch break on your own). To register or for details, call the church at 354-1448.

Volunteers are needed to help at the Jesus Gatherings on Sunday afternoons for the month of January, starting today. David Richards could use help today, as well as items for a potluck being served there. A sign-up sheet is in the foyer. Mitchell and Rochelle are taking the month of January as sabbatical leave, so help our church minister to them during this time.

The February 7 TAG get together will be led by Brian Koning and we will be discussing the topic of children participating at the Lord’s Table.

Are you making summer plans? Our church is putting together teams to work with World Renew the weeks of June 12th and June 19th. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us as we serve in the Okanogan area of Washington. The Vander Woudes and Hops are organizing this event on behalf of our church and a registration form will be available next month.
