Bulletin – Week of January 31, 2016

Message: A Compelling Christian Community

 Scripture: John 17:20-23; Acts 2:42-47

Offering: Benevolence Fund

 Prayer Requests:

This week we are asked to pray for Ken and Elaine Wick, Joe and Barb Zylstra, Ken Anderson, Elaine Barringer and Mabel Benedict.   Suggestions for prayers would be for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday life, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them.

We continue to lift Jodi Meir up in prayer as she heals from cancer surgery.

We lift up Linda McConnaughey in prayer as she broke several bones in her foot and is looking at surgery.

Roberta Maier requests continued prayers as she awaits L&I’s approval of back surgery. She has met with a surgeon, who will be recommending the surgery.

Announcements:

This morning we welcome Pastor Jason Hubbard to our pulpit as he shares God’s Word with us.

Join us today after Sunday school for a potluck and a town hall meeting to discuss the vitality workshop. See the enclosed flyer for more information. You are asked to cast your vote on the ballot if you are unable to stay for the potluck.

The February issue of The Heartbeat, our monthly newsletter, is available this morning.

Teachers are still needed for Sunday school for the following dates:

K-1st grade – March 6,13,20, April 3,10,17.

2nd& 3rd grade – April 3,10,17.

These kids would be very disappointed if there is no one to teach them during these dates, so please let me know ASAP if you would be willing to teach. Diane Button

Plan to join the GEMS on Friday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 for their baked potato dinner, followed by a fun evening of playing Bunko (optional). Come for dinner, stay and visit or stay to join the kids in playing Bunko. The dinner is by donation and helps fund their projects, etc. Bring a friend and enjoy a fun evening while helping out this wonderful program.

Our service next Sunday will be “Sacrificial and Generous Living and Giving,” based on Rom. 12:1-8. Everyone is encouraged to prepare their heart for the message. The bulletin, which includes the order of worship, is usually posted online by Friday afternoons and the monthly sermon topics with scripture are listed each month in the Heartbeat.

Servants Next Sunday, Feb. 7: Greeters: Joe and Barb Zylstra; Nursery: Caroline Boenig, Rosa McAlister; Snacks: Arlene Veenstra, Barb Zylstra; Ushers: Len Vander Woude and Don Knutson; Prayer Room: Del Bosman; Sunday school: Ida Richards, Diane Button and Mike Boer; Children and Worship: Ida Richards and Amber Obbink.

Congratulations to Kyle Sentkowski! Blaine Junior kicker/punter Kyle will leave this weekend to represent the U.S. in the International Bowl. Kyle was one of 58 high school football players nation-wide selected to play on the U-18 national team, which will play Canada on Feb. 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will be streamed online on ESPN3. Kyle booted 28 extra points last fall for the Blaine Borderites and had a 30 yard field goal in week 4 against Sehome.

TAG will be held on February 7 at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary. The Elders will be leading a discussion on participation at the Lord’s Table.

Are you making summer plans? Our church is putting together teams to work with World Renew the weeks of June 12th and June 19th. All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us as we serve in the Okanogan area of Washington. The Vander Woudes and Hops are organizing this event on behalf of our church. A registration form and information is available on the stand in the foyer.

Help is needed on the sound board during the Sunday morning worship. If you are interested in learning to run the sound board, please contact the church office. A time of training for all those working the sound board is being scheduled, so let the office know now if you are interested.

Thank you so much for giving Christmas gifts to the men in our New Life Program! They were overwhelmed by your generosity and felt so blessed! Thank you for making this Christmas special for them. The Lighthouse Mission.

It has been brought to the Deacons attention that Jessie Figenbaum and Darrell Rene would appreciate visits as they are not able to get out and the days get long for them. Let’s not forget our other shut-ins either who would also enjoy visits: Mabel Benedict, Wilma Kelln, Mary Kudsk and Carmen Larsen.

Join the Lynden Choral Society on Mondays from 7 to 9:15 p.m. at First CRC from Monday, Jan. 18, to March 7 as they rehearse for a spring concert. The cost to join for the spring session is $20 for adults and $10 for those under 18. For more information, contact Julie at 354-2672 or lyndenchoral@gmail.com.
