A Culture of Godly Leadership – Preparing our Hearts to Worship

In an effort to help you prepare for the March 6th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections about church health and vitality, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is about the need for a Culture of Godly Leadership in the Church. The main Scripture for the day is Matthew 5:3-12. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

Read and prayerfully reflect upon these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Matthew 5:3-12, Ezekiel 34, Hebrews 13:7, 1Corinthians 3:1-9, 4:1-3, 2Corinthians 2:12-3:6, 1Timothy 3, Titus 2.

You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at is.

From the Creeds and Confessions

  1. Read and reflect on the obligations of Church members, the Marks of the True Church, her government, officers and ordering. One possible resource is the Belgic Confession Articles 28 through 32.
  2. Reflect on the form of Presbyterian Church Government in these supplemental documents to the Westminster Assembly of 1645. Read the sections on the nature of church leadership.

Sing and reflect upon these songs:

  1. Lead me to the cross: Lyrics, Video
  2. The Basin and the Towel: Lyrics, Video

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

  1. Read and reflect on Mark Caner’s Article – Spiritual Meekness: An Imperative for Godly Leaders.
  2. Read my 2013 article on Godly leaders and Godly Followers.
