The Belt of Truth

Preparing our Hearts to Worship

The Belt of Truth

In an effort to help you prepare for the October 16th, 2016, Sunday morning corporate worship gathering and to aid you in your own reflections on The Armor of God, I wanted to pose a few questions and provide a few resources to prayerfully consider over the coming days. Our sermon is entitled, “The Belt of Truth”. The main Scripture for the day is Ephesians 6:14a. The other passages are either referenced in the message or provide additional insight for reflection.

(Pick and choose from the many resources and options, which I have tried to make available for your devotional life.)

From the Scriptures

Read and prayerfully reflect upon some or all of these Scriptures. Ask God to shape your life and your church’s life to match the heart of God:

Read or listen to Ephesians 6:14, 1:13, 4:21-24, 5:6-17, Psalms 31:5, 2 Timothy 2:15.

(You can read or listen to all of these passages in a variety of translations at Bible.is.)

From the Creeds and Confessions

Heidelberg Catechism Q112

Westminster Shorter Catechism Q4

From the songs, hymns and spiritual songs of the Church

Soldiers of Christ, arise (Charles Wesley): Lyrics, Video

Stand up, my soul, shake off thy fears: Lyrics, Music

The Battle belongs to the Lord: Lyrics, Video

Every Promise (Getty): Lyrics, Video

For Thoughtful Reflection, Prayer, or further Study

Consider these questions:

How important is knowing the truth to you? Why?

How much time and effort are you currently spending in seeking the Truth?

How could you increase this?

Read Richard Phillips, Can We Know the Truth?

The Sermon will be available online on October 16, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
