EPIC Devotion #5

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Mark 1:35

In EPIC, we will explore three different characteristics in people’s leadership styles: Spirituality, Chemistry, and Strategy. What is important to realize is that no one style is better. In fact, it is in their integration that we find the dynamic style that Jesus demonstrated.

Today’s passage is one of the many times Jesus withdrew from people to be alone with God the Father. Even up until his death on the Cross, Jesus spent time alone with God.

Some of us are primarily energized by being alone with God. We like to reflect on scripture. Be still in prayer. In the stillness and quiet, we have a connection with God. He may not speak audibly, but we leave that time with a peace and confidence that characterizes our journey of faith.

When you are invited to spend time alone, are you excited or disappointed? Would you rather spend a half hour talking with people or sitting quietly listening for God? People who have their strongest leadership quality as spirituality teach us all to pray.
