PRAYERS
Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:
- Helen B
- Alice B
- Yvonne B
- Tricia and Mairi B
- Bill B
- Bud & Lorraine B
American Pastor Andrew Brunson in Turkey: On July 18th, there was a court hearing for American pastor Andrew Brunson in Turkey. This was the third hearing, following hearings on 16 April and 7 May. Despite hopes for Andrew’s release, the judge ordered that he remain imprisoned as the trial process continues. A fourth hearing for Andrew’s case has been scheduled for 12 October 2018.
Christians in Turkey request prayer that:
- the Lord will comfort Andrew, his family and friends in the face of this further disappointment
- Andrew will be released soon, despite the judge’s decision
- his legal team and those pursuing political negotiations for his release will have much wisdom, especially in the light of the “new Turkey” political context
- Christians in Turkey would not be intimidated but would maintain a clear witness.
CRC’s Resonate Program, Ministry to Muslims: Pray for people who are drifting away from Islam in North America and other countries around the world. Ask God to work through our ministries to Muslims to establish meaningful relationships and connections that lead them to Christ.
MISSIONAL MARKER
The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church.
This Week’s Missional Marker:
Heartfelt Worship (Psalm 138:1a, John 4:23)
- We exalt and celebrate God for who he is, what he has done, what he is doing and what he will do.
- Worship reflects careful preparation to help give voice to many dimensions of response to God such as adoration, praise, contrition, lament, and commitment.
- People leave worship knowing something more about the heart of God and about their own hearts.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Potluck: There will be a potluck lunch next Sunday July 29th after the worship service. A few plans have been changed since last week’s bulletin. This potluck will not include a meeting or presentation, it will just be a time of sharing good food and enjoying time for fellowship. Our Hospitality Team will be providing hotdogs, buns, and condiments. Families may help by bringing the following, based on their last name:
A-J Hot Dishes K-R Salads S-Z Desserts
We hope that you will be able to come!
Family Promise: A big thank-you to our church family (29 of us) who helped in some way in the past few weeks to make our first experience with Family Promise a success and a blessing. We served a mom with 5 boys and a father with 1 son who were a delight to get to know and interact with. The week of September 2 will be our next opportunity to support First Christian Church in providing a week of assistance to families experiencing homelessness.
Children’s Sunday School: Calling all past, present, and future Sunday school teachers! It’s time to pick your spots for teaching our amazing kids in the two classes we have for the 2018/2019 church year. Sunday school starts September 9th, and ends June 2. You will find the sign up sheet in the August edition of the Heartbeat and posted in the foyer near the credenza. You have the option of signing up for a consecutive three week unit or six week unit. Please look closely at the dates listed in the units, as there are some breaks in the dates due to holidays or events.
New Signs: You have probably noticed the beautiful new signs outside our buildings. The deacons are requesting financial assistance from the church family to help defray the cost of the new signs. Thank you!
Legacy Church/LOWPC renovations: Updates and repairs are being made in the building and helpers would be appreciated. The stage area is going to be demolished and rebuilt, some interior walls will be prepped and painted, old carpet will be removed, and new carpet will be installed. The work began last weekend, and will continue through the end of July. If you would like to volunteer to help with any part of the project, please let the office know.
